DID YOU KNOW…. The first wind turbine was designed by Palmer Cosslett Putnam and manufactured by the S. Morgan Smith Companyin 1941 The Smith–Putnam wind turbine was the world's first megawatt-size wind turbine In 1941 it was connected to the local electrical distribution system on Grandpa's Knob in Castleton, Vermont, US The 1.25 MW turbine operated for 1100 hours before a blade failed at a known weak point, which had not been reinforced due to wartime material shortages It would be the largest wind turbine ever built until 1979 #greenenergy #windpower #sustainability #windturbine

Keeping the turbines spinning in Albany. Check out this great video showing the action at the iconic Albany Grasmere Windfarm in recent weeks. A nacelle (the component that houses the generator and connects the tower to the blades) was lowered to the ground to replace a ring bearing, before lifting it back into its rightful place 65m above ground level. The need to replace the ring bearing was identified as part of ongoing routine turbine maintenance. Cranecorp Australia were engaged by Worley Power Services to facilitate this important task on the Bright Energy Investments wind farm. The turbine is back in full spin, generating essential energy for our state. Albany Grasmere Wind Farm produces clean, renewable energy equivalent to 80 per cent of Albany’s annual electricity needs. Thanks Worley Power Services and Cranecorp Australia. #brightenergyinvestments #albanygrasmerewindfarm #renewableenergy https://lnkd.in/gFm2-gEQ

On today’s episode of Did you Know?✨ Wind turbines usually have three blades because it's a balance between efficiency and stability. Wind turbines with three blades strike a balance between capturing sufficient wind for power generation and minimizing drag for efficiency. This design ensures stability during operation, distributing forces evenly to reduce the risk of imbalance and structural stress. This stability is vital, particularly in variable wind conditions or gusts, ensuring safe and optimized energy production. #windturbines #energyefficiency #sustainableenergy
