Gastronomy, often called the art of food, refers to a style of cooking from a particular region. This means it often highlights local food and cuisine. On the other hand, sustainability is about doing things in a way that doesn't waste natural resources and can continue without harming the environment or our health. When we talk about sustainable gastronomy, we mean food that considers where ingredients come from, how they are grown, and how they get to our markets and plates. Gastronomy is more than just food; it represents the culture, heritage, traditions, and community spirit of different peoples. It promotes understanding among various cultures and brings people and traditions closer together. On #SustainableGastronomyDay we must reflect on what it means to follow this vision and approach when it comes to food. Gastronomy, the art of food, meets with sustainability, the way of doing things that doesn’t harm the environment. This means: no waste, use of natural resources & clean energy, products’ provenance. Sustainable gastronomy concerns producers, restaurants and each one of us. When traveling it’s important to learn and experiment with local gastronomy and privilege companies with these values when it comes to hotels and restaurants, and of course meeting with and buying from local producers that follow the same approach. Spicing Up the World: How African Culinary Tourism is Going Global !!! The global expansion of African food tourism can be significantly enhanced by protecting and promoting unique culinary assets. Here are some ways to revolutionize this sector: 1. Trademarking: African culinary businesses can trademark their brand names, logos, and unique dish names, creating recognizable and marketable brands globally. This ensures brand consistency and builds international reputation and trust. 2. Geographical Indications (GIs): Protecting traditional African food products under GIs can highlight the unique qualities linked to specific regions, such as Ethiopian coffee or South African wines. This adds value and authenticity, attracting food tourists seeking genuine experiences. 3. Copyright: Recipes, cookbooks, culinary guides, and multimedia content (e.g., cooking shows) can be protected by copyright, enabling African chefs and culinary experts to monetize their creations globally. It also allows for control over the use and distribution of their intellectual work. 4. Patents: Innovations in food processing, preservation, and unique cooking techniques can be patented. This promotes African culinary innovation and attracts global interest in new and authentic food experiences. 5. Franchising and Licensing: African food businesses can expand internationally through franchising and licensing agreements. Protection ensures that franchisees and licensees maintain quality and adhere to the original culinary traditions, thus preserving the authenticity of the food tourism experience. 6. Collaborations and Partnerships: Facilitating partnerships with international chefs, restaurants, and food brands enables African food businesses to co-create and promote African cuisine globally. These collaborations can lead to fusion dishes and cross-cultural culinary experiences, broadening the appeal of African food. 7. Digital Platforms: Protecting digital content like online cooking classes, virtual food tours, and culinary apps can reach a global audience. This allows African food tourism to tap into the growing market of digital nomads and online culinary enthusiasts. 8. Cultural Heritage Preservation: Protecting traditional knowledge and cultural heritage related to African cuisine ensures that local communities benefit from the global commercialization of their culinary traditions. This promotes sustainable tourism and supports local economies. By strategically leveraging these methods, African food tourism can enhance its global presence, attract more tourists, and create sustainable economic opportunities for local communities. 🇪🇺 The European wine industry is facing significant challenges, from declining consumption to the impacts of climate change. 📢 “Over the past two decades, the EU wine sector has been a success story. Framed by a comprehensive regulatory system, the EU has been leading in the world, with exports that tripled in value over that period,” - Commission’s agriculture and rural-development department 📉 The recent data highlights the urgency: global wine consumption dropped by 2.6% last year, hitting the lowest levels since 1996. 💡 Despite this, the European Commission is taking proactive steps by calling for member states to join the High-Level Group on Wine Policy, the forum that aims to tackle these macro challenges and explore sustainable solutions. 🌱 In this context, CBE is excited to contribute to this mission through 🍷 WINE Project, by launching an innovative online course designed to train wine professionals aligned with the European Green Deal objectives, focusing on emerging environmental threats and the need to enhance cooperation and skills transfer. WINE aims to: 🍃 Raise Awareness and Knowledge: Educate participants on sustainable wine-making practices to ensure a greener future for the industry. 🤝 Harmonize Education and Training: Standardize skills and knowledge across Europe, making it easier for professionals to adapt to changing market and environmental conditions. 🌐 Promote Wine Tourism: Highlight sustainable wine tourism practices, supporting local economies and cultural heritage. 🇪🇺 Foster European Networking: Create strong connections between different organizations across Europe, promoting collaboration and innovation. 🔗 Don't miss out!
