I didn't find this advert appealing at all. Learning that it was AI-generated completely turned me away. What businesses need to understand is that not everything should be driven by profit alone. A company cannot thrive without genuinely pleasing and connecting with its customers. Unless companies can create a world where AI replaces both people and customers—selling products to AI and profiting from it—this approach simply won’t work. I foresee a market trend where businesses will proudly advertise their products as "Made by Humans, No AI Added". People will rally behind those brands because they value authenticity and human touch. Businesses should harness AI as a tool to assist and enhance human efforts, not to replace them entirely. It’s about using innovation to empower, not alienate.

🚨 AI DRAMA ALERT 🚨 Coca-Cola recently received backlash after releasing their holiday commercial series because it was entirely created with generative-image AI. People criticized the ad spots for being soulless, landing in the uncanny valley, and cutting jobs for real people. But alternative soda brand Zevia saw an opportunity to highlight the contrast between itself and major soft beverage companies by producing its own ad, "Break From Artificial". Starting out with over-the-top bad Artificial Intelligence imagery to specifically mirror Coca-Cola's campaign and referring to their competitors as "artificial sodas", the response ad then pivots to footage of real people enjoying "naturally delicious" Zevias to hammer home the contrast. Other choices like leaning into Zevia's bright, vibrant color palette in the second half of the ad help position their products as an attractive alternative to major soda brands. All this speaks to the need of companies and brands to have a solid philosophy of how they view and use AI. Personally, as a huge fan of alternative sodas, I hope Zevia's efforts yield a larger share of the soft beverage market.
