As people sign off for the year and turn their out-of-offices on, we wanted to share our forecast for the year ahead. Our Head of Culture Jesse B. writes: “Although Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN came out in 2018, the album’s title is a perfect encapsulation of the mood in 2024 and the theme for ON ROAD’s inaugural trend review where we look at how culture may evolve in 2025 and how we’ll engage with it. 2024 was the climatic final instalment of a shit show that’s been building for nearly a decade since Brexit and Donald Trump, clear moments when the political landscape shifted entirely. The ongoing genocide in Palestine has changed the way we understand social activism at a time when we’re seeing the erasure of a group of people online in real-time. Everyone will have ideas of the biggest cultural moments in 2024, but what’s been happening in Palestine is the most galvanising and rousing global event. ‘Community’ was the buzzword of the post-pandemic world and it got run into the ground so much that brands began to equate having people in an invite-only, free drinks event as their idea of the concept. There’ll be a concerted effort to do things DIY and in more local settings, taking things back to the streets and our neighbourhoods. Time Out’s Londoner of the Year DJ AG showed us how to build community in culture without excluding people. We’ll see more of this at a time when austerity doesn’t seem to have an ending. So what will 2025 bring? Probably more of the same, crazier moments that we could never imagine happening. Maybe, Elon Musk finds a personality outside of being the guy who has spent much of 2024 influencing the US Election by cosying up to President-Elect Donald Trump. We can only hope but right now, that is all we have.” Download the full report here: https://bit.ly/damn_2025

The Israeli Palestinian war, Ukraine v. Russia, climate change, fears about the robots coming, a possible second Trump term, and the list goes on... Unless you've been hiding under a rock somewhere, you have heard about these issues. You know what's up. But you probably try to avoid discussing them in the workplace. Yet, many brands have been forced to make a comment, make a statement, let the world know where they stand on these kinds of things. Why? Well, today's consumers prefer aligning their own values and ideas with those of the companies from which they are making purchases. They prize their morality. It's also important to employees. Many employees want to work for organizations that they feel represent who they are and what they believe in. As a result, HR is often grappling with whether to make a comment - or not - when discussing certain headlines and movements. Lakisha C. Brooks, DiversityArchitect™, CDR, CAIS recently shared with HR Exchange Network readers how to figure this out. To make a statement or not? That is the question. Read her latest column to learn how to navigate the day's events to determine when to show your thoughts as an organization. https://lnkd.in/ezziVNxC #diversity #dei #deib #currentevents #news

This year’s #EquitySummit2024, A Revolution of the Soul, was more than just an event; it was a powerful call to action. It urged us to activate the individual and collective soul necessary to demand and create a nation that truly works for all. We brought together policymakers, organizers, advocates, elected officials, healers, researchers, funders, writers, artists, and musicians, creating a vibrant space for us to engage in our collective #SoulWork. We fortified our spirits with music and joy and considered a leadership stance that calls each of us to take ownership for governing for all. This year's Summit came at a critical juncture when the very foundations of our nation are trembling, with the core principles of liberty, justice, and equal protection coming under increasing pressure. As I wrote with #PolicyLink's Vice President of Research, #AbbieLangston, "The decision before us is whether we stake a claim as rightful cofounders of the nation. If the answer is yes, then our next revolution must be of the soul: developing both the collective and individual soul to love all." In the coming years, PolicyLink will focus on our Governing for All agenda, building on the insights and brilliance shared by attendees at the Summit. As we reflect on the joy, love, and connection cultivated at the 2024 Equity Summit, we are ready to take on the work ahead. Now is the time for each of us to step into our power as the true founders of the flourishing multiracial democracy that has never been, but is ours to deliver. https://lnkd.in/gV9-4eGW #WeAreTheFounders #Equity #ThrivingCommunities #MultiracialDemocracy

THE ANTI-RACIST CONVERSATIONS CONFIDENCE CHALLENGE WORKSHOP, POLITICS EDITION, IS COMING TO NEW YORK CITY! Join me for an intimate, in-person, interactive workshop, that will transform how you talk about politics, race, racism, and other systems of oppression! If there's one thing that the presidential election season of 2024 has taught us, it's that, gaining the skills for how to effectively engage in uncomfortable, and difficult conversations about politics, race, racism, is a need...a must-have...a necessary tool for collective liberation, peace, safety, and equity for all! It's not a "nice-to-have". Without these skills, you will go around causing all kinds of unintentional harm, and doing serious damage to your relationships, as well as to people with whom you interact with on a daily basis, in real life, and online. Let’s get off of our phones, computers, and iPads, and connect IN-PERSON! Go to the link on my profile to get all of the details for my workshop in New York City next month, and register today for 50% off the registration fee, until Friday! I look forward to meeting you in person, and helping you approach these difficult conversations with more grace, grit, confidence, and compassion! Moderates are tired of brand activism, and everyone's keeping an eye on prices. The takeaway? Focus on economic value, stick to positive actions like charity, and connect with people in ways that matter without diving into controversy. 💡 It’s not about playing it safe—it’s about playing it smart.
