In the study, patients with stage 4 gastric cancer received surgery to remove visible cancer tumors, and then received hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). HIPEC involves bathing the abdominal cavity with heated chemotherapy drugs to kill any microscopic cancer cells that remain. The method can use a higher dosage and apply greater permeation of the treatment, resulting in higher effectiveness. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy frequently reveals gallbladder cancers (GBCs), often previously undiagnosed. Given the poor prognosis of GBC, understanding factors influencing outcomes is vital. A systematic review by Dr. Kavin Sugumar explores the prognostic significance of biliary spillage (BS)—the accidental leakage of bile during surgery—finding that BS might worsen survival rates by spreading cancer cells. Circulating tumor DNA or ctDNA is not cancer cells in your blood. ctDNA is actually fragmented DNA from your tumor found in the blood. ctDNA testing is also called liquid biopsy. ctDNA has multiple usages and research is ongoing to find ways to utilize it in current cancer treatment. Some ways it can be used are: 1. ctDNA can be used to test for changes in biomarker status which can lead to a change in treatment. 2. ctDNA can be measured in blood to identify the presence of residual cancer cells after surgery or to monitor for cancer recurrence after successful treatment. 3. Changes in ctDNA level over time can give information about how well a treatment is working. #bustingcancermyths #ctDNA #cancersucks

Metastatic cancer is responsible for the majority of cancer-related deaths since surgery and subsequent radio- or chemotherapy often fail to remove all cancer cells. In addition, metastases frequently develop immunosuppressive resistance mechanisms protecting them from immunotherapy that work well in primary tumors. Researchers at Technische Universität München developed cells to be used in NK-or T-cell based therapies that overcome the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and thus retain their full cytotoxic activity.
