After last night's election results, it’s tempting to retreat, to feel defeated, to shut down, and turn away from what’s happening. But we can’t afford to look away. These results don’t just signal a shift in policy—they represent a direct threat to women's rights, racial justice, and the fight against anti-Black racism. They strike at the core of equity and justice for millions. My initial reaction was to shield myself from the weight of it all, to pretend it doesn’t impact me. But with privilege comes responsibility. This will impact each of us—across borders, across communities. I refuse to ignore the consequences because I know that silence is complicity. Instead, I commit to: ✔️ Using my voice to hold leaders accountable and to challenge those who align with policies that strip away human rights. ✔️ Listening and amplifying the voices of women, Black communities, and all who are most impacted. ✔️ Actively engaging to spread truth, question biases, and fight for justice. This isn’t just about the next four years. It’s about the future of rights, equality, and dignity for all. It’s time to make space for young voices 📢 Justice + Joy National Collaborative recently released insights from Fixing Democracy, a national initiative funded by The New York Women’s Foundation to gather insight and support youth civic engagement among girls, young women, and gender-expansive young people of color. Early this year, nationwide focus groups shared their issue priorities, values, and perceptions about democratic reform. “Young voters of color feel democracy has failed them, and it’s true…As we near a critical election year, our research finally puts them at the center of the conversation. It’s not enough to save democracy; it’s past time to fix it," said Jeannette Pai-Espinosa, President of Justice + Joy, formerly National Crittenton, on the findings. THE SO-CALLED HONEYMOON….The latest poll released this morning shows Vice President Kamala Harris leading the Presidential race in three key battleground states—Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—among likely voters. Don’t underestimate the power of women. We stand against attacks on our freedoms, including those related to our bodies, safety from gun violence, voting rights, and equal opportunities in the workplace and supply chain. As a result, female voters are coming together across ethnicities, socioeconomic classes, political affiliations, and geographical boundaries to support candidates who champion our causes. Today, on National Voter Registration Day, we recognize the power of each individual's voice in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future. Voting isn't just a civic duty—it's a powerful method to influence legislation and regulations that impact diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in our communities and workplaces. By registering to vote and participating in elections, you can advocate for policies that promote inclusion and equity for all, especially for historically underrepresented groups including Asian Americans, Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQIA+ people, people with disabilities, women, and Black and Hispanic communities. Inclusion in Democracy I've been thinking a lot about democracy lately and keep coming back to one question: does democracy really include everyone? We all know that democracy is supposed to be a system where the people make decisions about laws, policies, and leadership. But often, it seems like it's just the majority's needs that get prioritised, leaving minority voices unheard. True inclusion in a democracy is tough. It's all about finding the right balance between majority rule and protecting minority rights. We need to make sure everyone's voice is heard, not just those who are in the majority. Things like proportional representation and minority rights protections are steps in the right direction, but we need to keep pushing for more. Black women are deeply engaged in the national conversation as we approach the November election. According to a recent poll by HIT Strategies for Higher Heights Leadership Fund, 76% of Black women express the belief in the power of their vote, despite 26% feeling a decrease in influence as the election nears. Concerns over voter suppression are at the forefront, as highlighted by Glynda C. Carr, President and CEO of Higher Heights. Heading into November, the rising cost of living takes center stage for 58% of Black women. Public safety and affordable housing follow closely, tied at 35%, while 27% prioritize reducing racism and discrimination. Additionally, 40% of Black women are inclined to support candidates who advocate for reproductive freedom, according to the poll. Recent statistics have noted that addressing issues like abortion is crucial, as Black women are disproportionately affected by such policies. Despite feeling underrepresented in politics, the poll reveals that 81% of Black women voters believe in the transformative power of Black women elected officials. As we navigate these critical discussions, it's essential to amplify the voices and concerns of Black women in our political discourse and decision-making processes. #BlackWomenVote #ElectionInsights

Un Silenced. Until we have justice, at least we have voices. Women are still silenced, still abused everywhere in the world purely because they are women. As long as women are undermined, underrepresented in leadership - government, police, industry - there will continue to be a disparity in how genders are viewed in terms of their value and inherent worth. As long as men like Bruce Lehrmann can drag their victims through consecutive media/legal trials (while being lavished with money and free accommodation by the Seven network), and major sports celebrities can rape women and be released without punishment (thanks to expensive, savvy lawyers), this nation will continue to remind women our lives matter less. We don't need rhetoric, we need meaningful representation and a justice system that puts women's needs at the forefront. We need more women judges, more women MPs, and if that means gender quotas, do it.
