One Young World’s Post

Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke is making Indigenous voices heard in New Zealand's parliament and across the world. 📣 Recipient of our Politician of the Year Award 2024 and the youngest MP in New Zealand since 1853, Hana recently went viral when she ripped up a copy of New Zealand's controversial Indigenous Treaty Principles Bill before performing the traditional Māori war dance, the Haka, in parliament. Since being appointed to New Zealand's parliament in 2023, Hana has been dedicated to protecting Māori rights and culture, ensuring that the voices of her community do not go unheard. Speaking at #OYW24 she reminded all Indigenous young leaders: “If our ancestors navigated the biggest ocean, we can navigate anything.” Tag a leader in the comments who is standing up for their community! #IndigenousRights #Politician #PoliticianOfTheYear #OYW #Māori

One can only hope that indigenous youth continue to expose the ills of colonialism. To resist becoming colonizers is also important.
