According to the June 2024 economic report by the Events Industry Alliance Ltd (EIA), the events industry contributed £10.9 billion to the UK economy last year. At the same time, The Trussell Trust reported a 94% increase in food bank use over the last five years. Although we should celebrate continued success stories in the events industry as we approach pre-pandemic levels of activity, it's important we remember that for working people, the cost of living crisis continues, and it disproportionately affects kids, with 1.1 million food parcels distributed to children alone between 1st April 2023 and 31st March 2024. At ESM, we've decided to start getting a bit more involved with our own local community, starting with a collection for Swale Foodbank, which does great work helping local people in crisis. To learn more about what they do, find out how you can get involved, or locate your nearest foodbank visit their website: https://lnkd.in/giYdUaEn We'd love to hear about the all the ways your businesses (particularly in the events industry) have been getting involved with helping your local communities, be it fundraisers, collections or donations. Let's share ideas on the best ways we can start giving back, with a view to making the world a better place for everyone. Yesterday was #GivingTuesday. It has us thinking of those in our own community who need assistance. Even communities that seem socioeconomically alright often have people who are struggling in one way or another. Around this time back in 2018 we started something small at our local school and it has snowballed into a districtwide event with multiple businesses involved. This year’s event takes place tomorrow and we are pumped! Seeing the work that others in our HTM community do to give back inspires us to keep going and growing. We know that not every individual or every business is in a position to donate money, but there are other ways to have an impact in your community. Often times, especially for kids, it means so much just to know that somebody cares. Sharing food with a food pantry, giving travel toiletries to a school’s “Care Closet”, donating luggage to foster kids, and passing on outgrown coats are all ways of helping. Maybe your business could ask the local school or college if there is a student who you could sponsor for shoes or stationery supplies. If you are able to volunteer time, you could identify a community need and organize a way to fill it. Those of you who have had the thought, “Someone should do something about _____ ,” please entertain the thought that Someone could be YOU. #payitforward #giveback #startsmall #community #mybackyard

We're on a mission... I am looking for 10 ladies nationwide to... 1. Collect 30+ items each in your area towards our bags 2. Collect 10 full pouches (list provided) 3. Host a Fundraiser Coffee Morning in your area (via our Idonate.ie page) 4. Team up with 3 friends in your area to run a collection, clean and pack session before the end of November with a goal to complete 50 Hopefull Handbags Global NonProfit - we would help by either attending (date & location dependent) and inviting your local DA support service to receive the donations on the day. Details provided on how to set up. 📇 We're also looking for business/corporate support via one of the following ways: 1. Make a direct donation over €250 via iDonate.ie and print the forms for your accountant. 2. Host a donation basket in your premises and permit us to add your details to posts/website so the public know where they can donate. 3. Become a 'Safe Space' - this is showcased via a sticker and you keep a list of important numbers available and can provide a quiet, private space to make a phone call with no fuss or questions. 4. Host a collection of bags and supplies within your team. Aislíng 🫶🏻

Be Kind Be Grateful #34 – Create an alumni group where colleagues share stories of kindness and its impact, inspiring others to pay it froward and continue the cycle of good will. #33 – With Christmas coming, if you have toys that your children do not play with anymore, consider giving them to charities or goodwill stores so less fortunate children can have a toy under the tree this year. #32 – If you have unredeemed loyalty points that will not be used, if available, consider donating them to charity rather than having them expire. #31 – Hosting a holiday party, rather than say to your quests, please bring nothing. Help your local food bank and ask them to bring a non-perishable food item. Set out a box at your front door and see what your family and friends give back to the community. I think you will be surprised. #30 – Put together a ‘Health and Happiness Box’ for a teacher, pastor, or a person in need. This box might have some home baked cookies, healthy snacks, candle, bath salts and a note of thanks. Please share and add other comments or suggestions to the list.
