All of us in the fashion industry are feeling this. Supply chains have never been as complex or as challenged as they are today. Escalating geopolitical tensions, ongoing unrest in the Red Sea, the looming threat of US tariffs, the disruptive impact of port strikes, new EU regulations on traceability, and a slowdown in consumer spending: fashion brands, retailers, logistics providers, and manufacturers are facing unprecedented pressures. To navigate this turbulent landscape, we must reinvent our supply chain. Not talk about changing it, but actually do it. So that's what's been keeping my team and I busy in the last few months. We're now expanding our SE Asian and European production, incorporating direct-to-consumer shipping, and implementing a fully traceable supply chain. We'd love to partner with like-minded players to create new values and ways of working, so message me directly if this sounds like you! #supplychain #supplychaintech #fashiontech #innovation #distributedmanufacturing #dropshipping #traceability https://lnkd.in/gWQKs6ds

Adapting Sourcing Strategies: How Retailers Are Navigating Global Trade Challenges for Better Results In today’s rapidly shifting economic landscape, sourcing strategies are no longer about finding just the right product—it’s about finding the right price, location, and speed. Retailers like Walmart and Adidas are reevaluating their sourcing processes to navigate rising geopolitical tensions, tariffs, and changing consumer demands. While some, like Walmart, are diversifying beyond China into countries like India and Vietnam, others are focusing on local sourcing or getting hands-on with factories in Southeast Asia to create tailored products. Fast fashion giants like Shein and Temu, who thrive on speed, continue to keep China in the mix with quick delivery times and competitive pricing. For businesses looking to succeed, flexibility and innovation in sourcing can be the key to staying ahead. Whether it's reshoring production or venturing into new markets, the path forward involves a proactive and adaptable sourcing approach. To achieve success in this evolving sourcing landscape, businesses need to stay agile, prioritize local and international partnerships, and continuously optimize their supply chains to meet customer demands faster and more efficiently. #Strategy #Ecommerce #Marketing #Retail #Sourcing #SupplyChain #Temu #Shein #Walmart https://lnkd.in/exe_t4ck

🌍 As global #SupplyChains continue to face disruptions, fashion brands are trying to adapt to both supply and demand challenges. 🏭 On the supply side, ongoing attacks in the Red Sea have caused longer lead times, higher sea freights, and elevated #Inventory levels. Additionally, strong demand from Chinese online retailers keeps air cargo prices high. This makes many fashion companies dependent solely on sea cargo. #Stock levels are also impacted by the risk of the US port workers' possible strike. Furthermore, a 60% import tariff on Chinese goods, if imposed, could deliver another major blow to fashion supply chains. 🚛 On the demand side, with a slowing consumer market, #overstock is a significant challenge for the industry. Brands are cautious with stock levels, focusing on products that align with current market demand to prevent costly markdowns. Long-term strategies need to prioritize building resilient supply chains: diversifying the supplier base, improving #SupplyChainVisibility, and seeking greater efficiency through collaboration with competitors in #logistics. Meanwhile, short-term strategies need to focus on more precise #InventoryManagement to navigate the volatile environment. Planning ahead and staying lean will be essential for success in the next months. More details in the article below by #Vogue Business. 👇

Chinese logistics operators and e-commerce giants are increasingly expanding their footprint in U.S. warehousing as they respond to growing demand from American consumers. According to Prologis, China-based companies now account for 20% of new warehouse leases in the U.S., reflecting a surge in activity driven by major retailers like Shein and Temu. As these companies build out their U.S. supply chains, they aim to speed up fulfillment and prepare for regulatory changes that could complicate direct shipping from China. https://lnkd.in/dVGHHBSH

With the reliable sourcing of goods posing increasing problems for retailers and provenance rising ever higher up the agenda of consumers there is a growing need for greater control over all aspects of the supply chain. Last week I posted an article about the "fast fashion" industry taking up a very large portion of airfreight for eCommerce shipments. They do this due to a rule that was created almost 90 years ago to stimulate global trade. "Introduced in 1938, the de minimis exception was intended to facilitate the flow of small packages valued at no more than $5, the equivalent of about $106 today. The threshold increased to $200 in 1994 and $800 in 2016." The rule allows one shipment, per person, per day, valued under $800 to enter the U.S. free of duty and taxes. A record 1 billion de minimis packages came into the US in 2023. it was 135 million in 2015. Fast Fashion companies SHEIN and Temu are more than 30% of this volume according to a report from the Federal Government. "On Thursday, a group of 40 lawmakers asked Homeland Security Secretary Alexander Mayorkas to crack down on the de minimis trade, which they said also facilitates the flow of deadly drugs like fentanyl into the U.S." A repeal of the rule could add an estimated $20-30 per shipment. So of course, not everyone is in favor of this. "The National Foreign Trade Council, whose members include major shippers such as FedEx, UPS and DHL as well as online retailers like Amazon and eBay, argue that restricting its use would make purchases more expensive for American consumers and small businesses. The cost of a $50 package would double, according to the council." #CSCCSCM #FastFashion #retail #ecommerce #aircargo #oceanfreight #fashion #supplychain #logistics #transportation #deminimis #drugtrafficking #customclearance
