Following our policy of Flexible Autonomy, we offer all employees uncapped holiday; let's talk about it. 🏖 Unlimited holiday can be a controversial topic. Some companies work well with the freedom it brings, whilst some find that it brings lack of structure. ✅ This debate comes down to communication; unlimited holiday can only function successfully when employees & managers are in alignment, and there are clear systems of approval laid out. ✈ We recently completely redesigned our procedures for submitting holiday requests to prioritise a more formal approval system. When this was presented to the team at our recent meetup, we found that making the process more official demystified the concept of taking uncapped holiday. ⛵ At ESD, we value productivity over time cards; if output is effective, there's no reason why our employees can't be trusted to take time off and recharge as they see fit. One of the biggest issues with uncapped holiday is that in many companies it actually lowers holiday requests as workers feel intimidated by the concept; we're trying to deconstruct the reasoning behind this policy to highlight it's benefits. What do you think of this policy? - #uncappedholiday #remotework #companybenefits #eventdesign #eventsitedesign

It all boils down to the calendar. It’s essential to prepare for the holidays so your business and clients are taken care of. But how do you do it? In my office we look at every client, every contract, and set proper expectations based on these dates. We start to focus on this at the end of august and review EVERYTHING. Having it all down on an organized calendar allows us to do this. 🗓️We adjust our work flow to accommodate every single date, and highlight anything important on the calendar. It takes a lot of ingenuity from the team and we become hyper focused. We don’t want anyone to miss out because we were out. It’s also helpful to have a rotating staff incase someone needs to take off for a holiday, someone else will fill in. And make sure to set up automated responses and schedule updates a head of time! What do you do to prepare your business for the holidays? #AnnZeilingold #holidays #calendar

Let’s talk holiday check ins with the office. The primary purpose of paid annual leave is to allow and encourage every employee to renew their physical and mental capabilities and to remain a fully productive employee. Employees are encouraged to request leave during each year in order to achieve this purpose. If the purpose of taking annual leave is to recharge (physically and mentally) in order to maintain decent productivity levels at work, an inability to ‘switch off’, or worse, working while you don’t have to, defeats its purpose. A Glassdoor study carried out last year revealed that 23 per cent of UK employees on annual leave regularly checked their emails and 15 per cent continued working. One of the major motivators for this is absence anxiety: a fear that everything’s going to go wrong when away from the office: * “What if our client has an issue and I’m the only person who knows how to fix it?” * “What if I’ve forgotten to communicate something in my handover and it causes (avoidable) chaos?” * Etc. etc. Or, maybe you worry about the return to the office after your holiday; you can’t relax and unwind because soon enough you have to face your new reality: sun-lounger to your desk, you’re faced with 500 emails and a list of incomplete and overdue tasks that you thought you delegated in your handover. (If this is the case, what is the purpose of going on holiday?) Do you check in or do you fully disconnect and hope for the best? #holiday #conveyancing #residentialconveyancing #solicitor

☀ Time to set your Out of Office because it’s officially Summer holiday season! ☀ But for many professionals, that comes with a big question - should you pop online from your holiday? 🌴 The obvious answer is no. But, depending on the culture of your company, it could be seen as bad practice to avoid essential emails on your holidays… If that’s the case for you, here are our trainers’ tips: 1. Set your boundaries - before you go, make sure people know that you won’t be replying from holiday ⛔ 2. Delegate - make sure you have someone who can step up and take on any urgent matters while you’re away 👥 3. Be clear - in your out office message, let people know you won’t see that email until you’re back and provide details of your delegate 💬 4. Check back in - once you’re refreshed and returning from your leave, check in with your boss and your delegate, check the plan worked and, if it didn’t, work with them to tweak it so things work out better next time 🤔 5. Encourage others not to log in from leave - as they say, change starts with you ☀ #AnnualLeave #SummerHolidays #WorkingFromHoliday #LearningAndDevelopment

As the holiday season approaches, it’s essential to clearly communicate any changes to your business hours and expectations to ensure a smooth transition for both employees and customers. Here are a few tips for effectively managing Christmas hours and communication: 🎅 Plan ahead: Share your holiday schedule well in advance so everyone knows when the office will be closed or operating at reduced hours. This helps employees plan accordingly and ensures no confusion. 🎅 Be clear about expectations: Whether it's about taking time off, flexible working arrangements, or how to handle urgent tasks, make sure everyone is on the same page about what’s expected over the festive period. 🎅 Create a supportive environment: For those working over the holidays, show appreciation and encourage a culture of support. Let employees know that you value their efforts and wish them a restful break after the season’s rush. 🎅 Document everything: Update your employee handbook or internal communications to reflect holiday schedules, leave policies, and any adjustments to normal procedures. Having everything in writing ensures consistency and clarity. By creating open, transparent communication, you can help your team enjoy a well-deserved festive break while keeping your business running smoothly. 🎅 #Christmas #EmployeeCommunication #BusinessHours #WorkplaceCulture #HRConsultant

Navigating Holiday Requests: What You Need to Know 📅🔍 Confused about holiday requests? 🤔 Let us break it down for you, here’s a quick rundown of the Working Time Regulations 1998: 🗓️ Notice Period: Employees should give twice the notice of the requested leave. Five days off = 10 days’ notice 🚫 Declining Requests: Employers can refuse holidays due to operational needs, but must act quickly. By operational needs we mean there may already be team members that have that allocated time booked off or it could be a particularly busy time of year for the business. 💼 Booking Procedures: Businesses must outline how a holiday must be booked, for example, by completing a form or using an online system. This should be highlighted to employees in their induction and reinforced in the early days of their employment. Some businesses may restrict the number of consecutive days’ holiday which can be taken by staff. On the other hand, some companies, somethimes require that at least two weeks’ consecutive holiday is taken! #Workplace rules for happy life# Trust no one, but respect everyone. What happens in the office, remain office never take office gossips to home and vice versa. Enter the office on time, leave on time your desktop is not helping to improve your health. Never rush for a position, if you get promoted congrats, if not it doesn’t matter you will always be remembered for your knowledge and politeness not for your designation. Never run behind office staff, you have better things to do in life. Avoid taking everything on your ego your salary matters, you are being paid use your assets to get happiness. It doesn’t matter how people treat you, be humble, you are not everyone’s cup of tea. In the end, nothing matters except family, friends, home, and inner peace.
