At the exchange meeting of the municipalities on Wednesday 25 September 2024, ECOEMPOWER partner eza! Energie- und Umweltzentrum Allgäu took the opportunity to discuss the potential of One Stop Shops in the Allgäu Region.   After a brief introduction to the ECOWEMPOWER project, eza! and the participants dove straight into key questions: What exactly are energy communities? What types exist, and what are the benefits? The concept of energy sharing soon became central. How well is Germany positioned for this?   Several important points emerged during the discussion: ⚡ A clear framework for energy sharing in Germany is still missing! ➡ Supporting framework conditions need to be established! (so that the decentralized energy transition is able to exploit its full potential)   🚧 A lack of grid expansion and feed-in points was highlighted. // The strategy and implementation of the grid expansion was debated. ➡ Can ECOEMPOWER have a bottom-up effect on regional or district policy?   The event concluded with a lively discussion with a wide range of perspectives, also uncovering significant political barriers. The EMEX London Expo is a great event to launch exciting new initiatives and solutions for the energy management and net zero sector. The UK Governments legal and political commitment to decarbonise the UK economy is a central theme of the EMEX Expo. So, Birdsall are delighted to announce at EMEX 2024 the launch of a new company to help the UK Government meet its commitment to decarbonise the UK economy. Our new company is called Birdsall Decarbonisation Ltd. This company will specialise in decarbonising buildings and heat networks by replacing fossil fuel powered boilers and chillers with commercial heat pumps. The company will be based at our Holborn Hub and will lead the way in delivering commercial scale heatpump projects across England. The new company is already working on its first decarbonisation project in partnership with the Royal Botanical Gardens. We already have an exciting pipeline of developing projects. A brochure and our first case study shall be produced before Xmas.

In a recently published article in Asia Pacific Urban Energy Association (APUEA) magazine, Sudheer Perla, Managing Director of Tabreed Asia gives us a glimpse of how District Cooling can help us achieve our net-zero energy goals while promoting integrated, circular resource use. He further shares how District Cooling can be adopted through innovative risk-sharing business models such as public private partnerships and cooling-as-a-service model which are versatile enough to be molded to fit the diverse needs of people. Alongside support from the government to create an enabling policy and regulatory environment, District Cooling can revolutionise our urban cooling requirements shaping greener cities for the future.
