In Indonesian culture, there exists a more relaxed approach towards time, a stark contrast to the punctuality often observed in countries like Japan or Germany, where time is meticulously managed down to the last second. This cultural perspective on time is deeply ingrained in the Indonesian way of life, especially noticeable in casual gatherings and non-office environments. Within professional settings, time may be respected more rigorously, yet it's important for expatriates working in Indonesia to understand and adjust to this cultural nuance. The Indonesian approach is not indicative of a lack of punctuality but rather a reflection of a broader cultural value that prioritizes flexibility and a less hurried lifestyle. This is not to say that some offices are very punctual and professional in respect to time, deadlines and reporting but it may not be all. As such, expatriates should not be surprised to encounter a more laid-back attitude towards time and should see it as an opportunity to embrace a vital aspect of Indonesian culture, enhancing their experience in the country.

There are many Singaporeans who could not get their flat and decided to stay oversea. In one of my training, a lady who had 2 children said they have tried to get a HDB flat for 3 years but could not and has migrated to Bali. They are Digital Nomad doing eCommerce so it was an easy transition and decision. Looks like there are many more.....no wonder the restaurant manager at Puteri Harbor said there are many Singaporeans living there. In the recce trip last weekends, we also saw a number of Singaporeans who have planned to move their families over. They were touring the international school with their children. So how to move out of Singapore if you are a professionals? Step 1: Start working in Hybrid mode Step 2: Switch to fully Remote mode Step 3: Move out of Singapore and be a Digital Nomad Things to look out for when recce for a suitable location/housing: 1. Fast and stable Internet access 2. Nice place to stay with a nice scenery Note: If you body is immune to mosquitoes bites, you can use those villa and lower level housing. Here's an overview of the lifestyle in Thailand: ✔️ In Thailand, the family almost always comes first, with a much greater emphasis placed on the extended family than is typically seen in Western countries. ✔️ The concept of “face” is important in the workplace as well, so criticism should be given privately and diplomatically. ✔️ The hierarchy in Thai businesses is more pronounced, and respect for superiors is expected. ✔️ Building personal relationships with colleagues is important in Thai business culture. ✔️ Thai people may communicate more indirectly, and it’s important to read between the lines to understand what is being communicated. ✔️ Thai people may avoid saying “no” directly to prevent offending others, so it’s important to pay attention to nonverbal cues. ✔️ Thai people are hard-working and ambitious. Although their workday normally lasts 8 hours and their working week is typically 5 days, this is often theoretical. In fact, some Thai people work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, and may commute to work for 2 hours one way. ✔️ Thai people dress modestly, as Thai culture emphasizes decent clothing. ✔️ For the Thai people, the King is the most important person in the country. ✔️ Thais are generally friendly and welcoming, but it may take time to build deeper relationships. ✔️ Learning about Thai holidays and customs and participating in them can show respect and help build connections.
