Good marketers are going to be worth their weight in gold (or equity) in the AI world to come. More so than they ever have been ⬇ Let me explain. AI is going to create more players than ever across multiple tool types and verticals. Yes, product quality will matter BUT distribution and brand awareness is going to matter even more. It's happening now, even in our little corner of sales tech, in the AI video space. New, copycat competitors are popping up everywhere. But why do we continue to grow? Why are we able to co-market with some of the largest providers in the space? It's because we have the best marketing in the space. We outgun our VC founded competitors (fun fact we now have some bigger players trying to copy our GTM). It means we can win. Brand is our moat. In the AI world to come, this will be the difference between winning and losing. Sure, build a great product. But without a really solid marketing strategy, manned by a smart, innovative marketing leader who is willing to throw out the old stale marketing playbook, you will die. This will be true for the big legacy players and the smaller scrappy startups. If you have a good marketing leader, keep them close, pay them well. But what makes a "good marketer?" ⚡look for experience building something from the ground up ⚡or accelerating a team's ability to grow/connect/create ⚡look for (instead of being afraid by) someone who veered left ⚡and has experience in content *and* product marketing (or other combinations) ⚡or jumped aboard a startup to help them figure things out ⚡or had the confidence to freelance for awhile If you want your product/brand/content to standout, look for good marketers who are willing to try new things. That's (the fun) half of good marketing.
