Representation Matters 🌍💉 Black medical and healthcare professionals have a positive impact on the patient’s lived experience in the following 10 ways: Here’s a list of ten ways that Black professionals in medicine and healthcare positively impact a patient’s lived experience: 1. **Cultural Competence**: Black healthcare professionals often have a deeper understanding of the cultural backgrounds of their patients, which can lead to more tailored and effective care. 2. **Trust Building**: Patients may feel more comfortable and understood when treated by a provider who shares similar cultural or racial backgrounds, fostering a trusting patient-provider relationship. 3. **Addressing Health Disparities**: Black professionals are often more attuned to the unique health challenges faced by Black communities and work to address these disparities through advocacy and informed care. 4. **Role Models**: Their presence in healthcare serves as inspiration for younger generations, demonstrating that a career in medicine is attainable and encouraging more Black individuals to pursue healthcare professions. 5. **Holistic Care**: Many Black professionals incorporate holistic approaches that consider social, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of health, enhancing overall patient well-being. 6. **Patient Advocacy**: Black healthcare providers often advocate for their patients, ensuring that their voices are heard in treatment decisions and healthcare policies. 7. **Improved Communication**: They can bridge communication gaps, using language and terminology that resonate with their patients, thereby improving understanding and adherence to treatment plans. 8. **Community Engagement**: Black professionals are often active in their communities, providing education and resources that promote health awareness and preventive care. 9. **Research and Innovation**: They contribute to research that addresses health issues prevalent in Black communities, leading to more effective treatments and interventions. 10. **Support Networks**: By fostering connections with other Black healthcare professionals, they create support networks that benefit patients through referrals and shared knowledge about culturally relevant resources. #BlackHealthcare/MedicalHeroes, #LaborOfLove, #CelebratingBlackHistoryMonth2025  I do not own the copyright to this material

Bristol Cathedral is set to host an inspiring exhibition of work created by primary school children from across Bristol in response to anti-racism lessons designed by UWE Bristol researchers. The project, led by Dr. Jane Carter and Dr. Sarah Whitehouse from the School of Education and Childhood, helps children reflect on their own experiences while learning the value of understanding and empathy. Their work, inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and Bristol’s history, is a reminder of the importance of teaching tolerance from an early age. More: https://brnw.ch/21wQ1I3

Black architects - stuck at 2% of licensed architects - MUST adopt the NMA model in the drive to be relevant to the Black Agenda.

I'm in Cali, y'all. For the 2024–2025 academic year, I'll be living in downtown Palo Alto, writing at the Stanford Humanities Center, hiking on the Peninsula, rabble-rousing in San Francisco, community-building in Oakland—and dreaming, recharging, meditating everywhere. While I'm here, I hope to craft a full draft of a book called THE AFROMANTIC: BLACK LOVE OUT YONDER "The Afromantic will unfurl a cultural history, critical theory, aesthetic expression, and existential assertion of B/black love* outside. At the center of this project is Afromance: a way of life driven by utopic dreaming, ecstatic feeling, starry-eyed seeing, deep tenderness, a passion for liberation, and a will to love—all while it tends to the great grief and strife that beset blackness. Afromance might also name our ethical commitments, artforms, critical theories, political tactics, and revolutionary struggles** that love blackness. The book will follow black love to cookouts, festivals, carnivals, rooftops, rallies, jazz funerals, gardens, distant stars, and forest clearings—yielding an account of love that is also an act of love." *The love I describe is not some flighty, flimsy fancy. This is world-making, world-shattering stuff. **Shout-out to revolutionary struggle happening outside right now...including in "open air prisons."
