Welcome to Day 5 of the 12 Days of Access! The ADA has an obligation for Title III places of public accommodation (businesses, non-profits, etc.) to engage in “readily achievable barrier removal”. In short, barrier removal is an additional expectation to remove physical barriers on a continual basis when it is readily achievable, not just when it is required during remodels or renovations under the 2010 ADA Standards. Building homes has slowed due to budget issues. Funds are being funneled into repairs and upkeep. The Autumn Budget may decide if this can change. The social housing sector is feeling the strain. I spoke to a housing provider who shared just how difficult it has become to build new homes With budgets being tight and funding being cut New developments are being put on hold as the focus shifts to urgent repairs and maintenance of current housing stock. This leaves many communities waiting with repair backlogs rising. On October 30th. The Autumn Budget will be presented by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, and all eyes are on what this could mean for social housing. Will the government address the funding gap, or will repairs and upkeep continue to swallow the majority of available funds?
