When Housing Today reached out to say I'd be featured on this list I was extremely flattered. When reflecting on the questions that they had asked it reinforced the need in my mind for housing providers to think about longevity, in their properties, people and systems. EDI is often thought of as a throw away role, something done at the side of someone's desk. It is SO much bigger than that. It's about cultural change, its about understanding the needs of so many and the changes that a buissness needs to make to make those needs a reality. I was talking to Christina McGill at the Housing Diversity Network conference about the need for the M4(2)and (3) standards to be adopted by those developing properties and the amazing work Habinteg do in this area. We need to set clear targets for building accessible homes, homes that will last longer and be accessible to all. So why the M4(2) and (3) standards? 🏡 Less need for costly 'after the fact' adaptations 👥 Properties that are accessible to all 🙋♀️Properties that suit the needs of the individual 💰 Minimal or no additional cost if considered from the outset
"We have a unique opportunity to make our homes accessible to all in the long term, whether that is building properties to a higher standard (M4) or ensuring that adaptations are consistent and relevant to all" Lili Vetter of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group is one of Housing Today’s Top 30 Housing Champions #HTEveryPersonCounts #Top30HousingChampions https://lnkd.in/eTnaDxm8

🧵 Co-operative #housing means people with a shared vision can come together to create sustainable solutions to the housing crisis. It can play an essential role alongside councils, developers and investors to create affordable homes which meet local needs. #CoopFortnight Co-op housing comes in many shapes and sizes. Small groups of friends buying a house to share, leaseholders setting up a tenant management committee, community members buying local land to develop new housing – these are all examples. 🏡 Gŵyr Community Land Trust CiC, a new development of carbon-zero homes in the Gower, will be led and part-built by the community. The project, supported by Communities Creating Homes, will provide affordable homes for people facing the impact of Wales’ housing crisis. Learn more here: https://buff.ly/3xvotqV ♻️ Our Communities Creating Homes project offers support and advice to new and existing organisations looking to develop community-led housing schemes in Wales. We know that every project is different – our support is tailored to the needs of each community. We want to help you on your journey. 🛋️
