Infineon Technologies and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) recently launched a Vendor Development Programme aimed at enhancing the capabilities of local Malaysian companies to support the expanding semiconductor industry. The initiative seeks to strengthen the local supply chain by providing opportunities and support to local suppliers, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and resilient semiconductor ecosystem in Malaysia.

Malaysia is a significant player in the global semiconductor industry. In 2023, the country produced approximately 35.23 billion semiconductors, marking an increase from the previous year. Malaysia's expertise lies primarily in the assembly, testing, and packaging of semiconductors, attracting major international companies. The government actively supports the sector through initiatives like the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, aiming to enhance Malaysia's position in the global semiconductor value chain and drive innovation. With the increasing demand for semiconductors fueled by technologies like AI and 5G, Malaysia is well-positioned for continued growth and economic development in this sector.

Budget 2025: Boosting Malaysia's Semiconductor Industry Budget 2025 aims to boost Malaysia's semiconductor industry with several initiatives. Key measures include a RM1 billion strategic investment fund, expanded tax incentives for integrated circuit (IC) design, and efforts to reduce reliance on foreign workers through automation. These initiatives are part of the National Semiconductor Strategy under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, positioning Malaysia as a significant player in the global semiconductor market. Indeed, it is a great initiative to ward off Chinese supremacy and the dumping approach to decentralize the Indian economy. A befitted reply to the dragon.The agenda behind the ideology: Sending a clear message to the world: India is no longer a country of elephants and snake charmers; look at the global growth projection reports of various organizations. India has attained a pioneer position in GDP, surpassing many Western economies and its Asian competitor, China. However, the country is still dependent on various logistics and supplies from other nations. In the age of digital transformation, it is set to emerge as a prominent business investment destination and, as a result, robust its competency to strongly retaliate against the global dominance of major economies. Aligning foreign policy with trade benefits: The non-alignment policy of Indian diplomacy and replicating its benefit with trade balance is indeed a commendable initiative and a significant milestone in India’s foreign policy. The multifaceted benefits include creating resilience against global market fluctuation, emerging as a pioneering manufacturing hub, generating excess revenue and foreign reserves, creating excess jobs, countering the political and economic pressure from other developed nations, etc. Leveling up the Indian manufacturing standard: Remember the Housimodi phenomenon when the prime minister visited the US and urged investors to invest in India? A lesser-known fact is that some of the businessmen failed to turn up their promises and chose other nations for trade benefits. Now it is India’s turn to let them repent their decision; indeed, a great lesson to Tesla and Foxconn. Managing global superpowers: it is no longer a hidden truth that besides the US and Russia, China too is trying to prove its supremacy in the world. Many such incidents validate the points as to how such economies tried to create unrest in the emerging economies, supported hostile nations, and took biased decisions to maintain their supremacy and dominance. Translating dreams into reality: Besides being a global manufacturing hub, the chip manufacturing market has great potential untapped market; it also paves the way to the success of Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming green field smart city cum manufacturing hub, Dholera. Since the majority of manufacturing facilities are being set up there, Foxconn had already planned to develop its manufacturing unit, which it later backed off.
