Thursday School: Spectrum Access : Improved Opportunities and Outcomes? Access to spectrum is the lifeblood of Mobile Networks. There are currently a number of initiatives in the UK and elsewhere aiming to improve access to spectrum for non-MNOs, largely recognising that these mechanisms have positive effects of society. The mechanisms vary, from CBRS, Local Access Licensing, Campus Spectrum, Shared Access (Lightly Licensed) and now new initiatives in Spectrum Sandbox. Looking, for example, at the proliferation and use of Shared Access Spectrum, we can see that the numbers and distribution are broadly good. 890 - mostly outdoors - licenses issued right across the UK. But what are they used for? The major use is different slants of Private Networks. Private Networks add coverage and capacity in unserved and underserved locations. They maybe Neutral Host Networks – deploying publicly accessible spectrum – Host Private Networks – deploying spectrum for exclusive use of the deploying body or landlord – or a Hybrid, deploying spectrum for both. For Neutral Host, integration with MNO systems and processes is needed. Freshwave’s Omni solution announced yesterday is an example of this, as well as Shared Access, Boldyn Networks, Dense Air, Cellnex UK, Wireless Infrastructure Group, NET CS and many others. For Host Private Networks, integration with Enterprise IT systems and processes is needed. Industrial and FWA are 2 examples of this. For Hybrid, it’s clearly both. A campus network could be a great example, opening up Private Land for Public Mobile Access, but also allowing connection and processing of private data, such as sensor data, CCTV cameras (optionally including Video Analytics/Computer vision). But it’s clear from measures to further improve access, that the spectrum access is adding value and will continue to do so! #InvisibleInfrastructure #EveryDaysaSchoolDay #Mobile 🤳🏼 #Telecommunications Previous Post: https://lnkd.in/epakF_6T

Last week, part of the 5G Innovation Lab team attended the #Internet2TechEx Conference in Boston. Operations Director Dustin DeBrum moderated, and the Lab’s technical advisor Jonathan Polly participated in a panel on the evolution of private and neutral host networking standards and solutions. The discussion delved into how 4G LTE and 5G networks are transforming campus connectivity—exploring integration with traditional WiFi, deployment strategies, and insights from live pilot projects like those at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. These projects highlight how data-driven, innovative solutions can address the unique needs of campus environments. We're excited to continue driving these conversations and solutions forward! #5GInnovationLab #CalPolySanLuisObispo #5G #Connectivity #CampusInnovation #TechLeadership #futureinnovation #innovation

August 2024 Editorial - WiFi vs LiFi: What Future for Connectivity? In August 2024, the digital age continues to evolve at breakneck speed, redefining the way we connect to the world. Two technologies stand out in this race for innovation: WiFi, with which we're all familiar by now, and LiFi, a promising revolution driven by pioneers like OLEDCOMM. Let's compare these two technologies to better understand their advantages and applications. 📳 #WiFi: An Established Technology WiFi is ubiquitous in our daily lives. Thanks to its radio waves, it provides fast, reliable wireless connectivity, serving homes and businesses alike. Recent advances, notably WiFi 6 and soon WiFi 7, offer faster connection speeds, better management of dense networks and reduced latency. However, WiFi is not without its limitations, such as electromagnetic interference and frequency band congestion, especially in dense urban environments. 📱#LiFi: The Future of Connectivity LiFi, or "Light Fidelity", uses visible light to transmit data. OLEDCOMM, a leader in this field, has demonstrated impressive achievements, such as data transfer speeds of up to several Gbps. LiFi offers many advantages: unlimited bandwidth, enhanced security thanks to the directional nature of the light, and total absence of electromagnetic interference. What's more, LiFi is particularly suited to environments where radio waves are undesirable or inefficient, such as hospitals or airplanes. 👨🎓 Why train in WiFi and LiFi technologies? In a world where connectivity is the sinews of economic and social war, understanding and mastering wireless communication technologies is crucial. This is where LOGIC académies (LOGIC) comes in. By offering specialized training in WiFi and LiFi, LOGIC académies prepares professionals for the challenges of tomorrow. Whether you're an engineer, technician or decision-maker, training in these technologies will give you an undeniable competitive edge. To summarize: WiFi and LiFi are two complementary technologies that will continue to evolve and coexist, each providing unique solutions to specific needs. Thanks to innovative companies like OLEDCOMM and forward-thinking training programs like LOGIC académies, we're well prepared for a future where connectivity will be faster, safer and more ubiquitous than ever. Train today with LOGIC académies to build tomorrow's networks. #WiFi #LiFi #OLEDCOMM #Technologie #Innovation #Formation #LOGICacadémies #Connectivité #FuturTech LOGIC
