Have you seen the 417 since construction began on the LRT? Congestion gets continuously worse. Watson’s folly has plunged Ottawa into $10billion in debt and $500 million in amortization for an unreliable, under utilized mess. But we knew this would happen. There is no country in the world that has thrown $billions at train systems ,that has ever seen a reduction in surface congestion. None. Try to imagine Ottawa in 10 -20years with a population approaching 2.5 million. The 417 will be permanently gridlocked. It can’t be widened without spending $billions on the North and South sides to expropriate properties.

In Hamburg, tradition meets modernity, classic meets pop culture, tranquility meets lively hustle and bustle, and Hanseatic serenity meets cosmopolitan charm. Hamburg is a city that is constantly changing and yet always remains true to its roots. Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the largest city in Europe that is not a capital city. Located in the north of Germany, Hamburg is a city defined by water. Of course, as a Hanseatic city, Hamburg is characterized by the port and trade; the river Elbe is the city’s lifeline. And water is also predominant in the normal cityscape. Numerous canals and waterways criss-cross Hamburg, creating an image that exudes a certain Hanseatic calm. In Hamburg, everything is in motion, everything is in flux. In the immediate vicinity of Hamburg, you will find both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea within short distance. All the components that make up northern Germany can be found here: vast landscapes, wind and water. Also nearby is the capital Berlin, which can be reached by train in under two hours.
