OCEG and measurable value. Last week, I posted a couple of articles about OCEG's IRMP certification, and several have sent private messages asking about maintaining certification and CPE credits which I have responded to. I have had a couple of other more general messages. Why OCEG? A real no brainer for me was when I was comparing professional certification and costs. I started with the GRCP and GRCA.  I looked into academy training and training offered by consultants. Most were 2-to-3-day courses some costing over $1000. After the past few months of studying, I am happy to share that I have been certified as both a PECB ISO27001 Lead Implementor and a Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP). For anyone looking to go for these certifications, here are a few tips that have helped me along the way. Tip 1 - Find a study partner/mentor - A big thanks to my study partner Oliver Silver and my mentor, Andrew Dunn. Learning with someone else made the process more enjoyable, and it was great to pick the brains of someone who had completed the certifiactions. Don't be afraid to reach out! Tip 2 - Block out the last weekend before the exam - I would highly recommend doing past paper questions just before the exam. This helped me understand the exam format and get a feel for the types of questions they ask. However, past paper questions didn't come up in my exam (as much as I hoped they did!) Tip 3 - Don't be put off if you aren't passing the practice papers at first - Especially for SSCP, there were some elements I found difficult to understand at first. Starting to revise early and consistency was the key to passing this exam. If anyone would like a quick chat before their next exam, happy to speak!
