🦺 👔 Whereas ensuring that workers receive adequate wages is enshrined in the European Pillar of Social Rights, there is currently no widely accepted definition on what wage adequacy is, and therefore what constitutes an adequate wage. In fact, wage adequacy encompasses different dimensions related to within- and between- country wage inequalities; inter- and intra-industry wage differences; or migrant and gender pay gaps. 🔎 📑 We are excited to share that at Open Evidence we have recently been awarded a project on “New measures on wage adequacy” for the European Commission – DG EMPL in which we will explore the different dimensions of wage adequacy. One of the results of the project will be the development of indicators to measure wage adequacy in a comparable manner across EU Member States. 📢 Find more about the work we do in: https://lnkd.in/gg-acGsr #wageadequacy #livingconditions #fairness #livingwage #workersrights #EUprojects

There remains a huge pay gap between the average female wages and the female care worker across various regions and implementing policies and practices such as wage subsidies, minimum wage laws, and other economic supports can help bridge this pay gap. When we address the wage disparities, we can ensure that domestic workers are fairly compensated for the vital contributions they make to our economy and the society at large. By doing these, we can work towards a fairer, more equitable society where domestic workers are valued, protected, and fairly compensated. The minimum wage is up to two-thirds of median earnings and has risen by 70% in real terms since its introduction in 1999. It will cover 6.7% of all workers this year, including more than 16% of 16 to 17-year-olds in work. So, why do so many Employers not focus on training their staff on #minimumwage ? #kentbusiness #smes #kentinvictachamber

Eurofound has just released its latest annual review on minimum wages in 2024. According to the report, the minimum wage has increased in all EU countries by up to 21%. The EU Minimum Wage Directive, passed in October 2022, aims to improve standards of living with a view to achieving upward convergence and reducing in-work poverty, wage inequalities, and the gender pay gap. However, while an increasing number of Member States are embarking on improving minimum wages relative to average or median wages, thereby increasing the ‘fairness’ dimension, it is important to further reflect and analyze whether such measures ensure a ‘decent standard of living’ as an additional dimension in the assessment of adequacy. You can find more information in the article below. ⬇ At #SYNCLUSIVE, we work towards labor inclusion and fair working conditions for all vulnerable groups. #SYNCLUSIVE #EUMinimumWageDirective #labourinclusion #socialproject #employment

Calling all civil society organizations in the living wage community. Register: https://lnkd.in/eMupFz5B for Thursday's webinar hosted by WageMap: Towards a Living Wage Reference Standard. Speakers from the International Labor Organization and United Nations Global Compact will be sharing recent developments and next steps on living wage work, including why the Living Wage Reference Standard was created and how to get involved in stakeholder consultations. Ontario Living Wage Network and a national union will also be sharing about the importance of national ownership and social dialogue in living wage work, a theme strongly emphasized in the recent ILO principles. In 2023, after 20 years of working with dozens of companies on Living Wage, BSR joined leading living wage data and service providers to work together to establish a living wage reference standard. BSR supported the incubation of the WageMap consortium in 2023 and now sits on the steering committee. We continue to refine our approach to working with companies on living wage to reflect recent guidance from the ILO, reporting and regulatory requirements from the EU and thought leadership from the WageMap consortium. 📢 National Minimum Wage Increase Announcement 📢 The Fair Work Commission has announced that the National Minimum Wage will increase by 3.75% on 1st July 2024. This boost aims to ease cost-of-living pressures for low-income households. Despite last year’s increase, real-term wages are still lower than five years ago. The Fair Work Commission balances this increase against productivity growth, with additional benefits from upcoming tax cuts and budget measures. While directly impacting only a small group, ~25% of Australian employees will feel the effects of this increase. Next year’s review will tackle gender undervaluation issues. Stay updated and plan ahead! #MinimumWage #FairWork #CostOfLiving #WageIncrease

The impact of minimum wage increases https://lnkd.in/gqtQDkgW Johan Gerber | Managing Director | Supercare | Empact Group | We are acutely aware of the challenges posed by recent minimum wage increases mandated by the South African government. While the intention behind these increases is to improve the livelihoods of minimum wage earners, the reality is that they often create a complex web of consequences, particularly in industries like contract cleaning. The recent mandates by the South African government have significantly elevated labour compensation standards, yet they’ve unleashed a torrent of challenges for businesses already grappling with financial constraints. The recent minimum wage hikes, while well-intentioned in their aim to uplift low-income workers, have inadvertently plunged industries, particularly the contract cleaning sector, into a dire quandary... #MinimumWage #wages #jobs #productivity #employment Johan Gerber Empact Group
