We’ve launched a $1 million grant fund for developers to create DeSci (Decentralized Science) projects on EDU Chain. With barriers like outdated peer review and centralized funding holding science back, DeSci offers a new vision: open, merit-based, and accessible to all. EDU Chain provides the ecosystem needed to bring this vision to life, offering access to our university network, tech infrastructure, and developer community. Ready to build the future of science? Check out this story about BSSw fellow, Oliva Newton, who is working to create better scientific software teams...and don't miss the application deadline to apply to become a fellow!
Meet Dr. Olivia Newton, 2024 BSSw Fellow Better Teams, Better Software, Stronger Community Dr. Olivia Newton wants to help you build a better, more effective team. A postdoctoral scholar in the Institute for Simulation and Training at the University of Central Florida, she is among the latest BSSw Fellowship cohorts. She has been embedded in scientific software development projects and witnessed firsthand the need for knowledge, skills, and abilities related to team learning, and as a Fellow, Dr. Newton is developing guidelines and a toolkit to improve team learning in teams that develop scientific software. “For a very good reason, computational science and engineering focus on technical ability, but sometimes that focus comes at the cost of developing problem-solving and collaborative skills that are critical too,” says Dr. Newton. Full story: https://lnkd.in/gJGGekfd More info- bssw.io https://lnkd.in/gtVbvZCa https://lnkd.in/gciYA-7e Application deadline: Monday, September 30, 2024; this is a firm deadline that will not be extended. Decentralized Science offers new ways to enhance Decentralized Education (#DeEd). 🧠 It’s no secret that traditional educational systems are failing our children. Structures, processes, and tools — everything is outdated, leaving students bored or unable to relate. The pandemic proved this well. 🔗 In our latest article, Dr. Ananya Shrivastava explores the potential of Decentralized Education, how it can reshape the traditional system, and how it works together with #DeSci. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/d64eJwaw 💡 Featured use cases: Bittopia University: Decentralized Autonomous University, Tutellus, OpenCampus.xyz.

The #HumanCentred #Innovation section at DTU Management is growing at a steady pace and I am very pleased to share that Lasse Uhrskov Kristensen has joined the group. Lasse is PhD candidate and will study #GitHub as a site of public #digitalization. He is part of a Independent Research Fund Denmark funded project entitled Transnational Collaboration at the Digital Frontier (DigiFront), led by Irina Papazu and Jessamy Perriam. DigiFront investigates collaborative public digitalization efforts across three countries. Lasse will investigate how system developers work and share on GitHub, how they interact with #opensource code, and if, how and when they fork code from each other or from institutional accounts. The larger concern is around open-source software for public digitalisation. How is it done (sharing, borrowing?) and what affinities and frictions arise in the process of reconfiguring code and welfare infrastructures. Lasse will be supervised by Anders Kristian Munk and Alexei Tsinovoi. Lasse has previously worked at The Techno-Anthropology Lab Aalborg University where he worked as a teaching and research assistant on various courses and projects at the intersection of #STS, #anthropology, and #digitalsociety. Feel free to reach out to Lasse or to Tanja Schneider (Head of Section) if you are interested in #ethnographic #softwarestudies in general or in the specific project.
