👀 In Downham Market, the journey to net zero is underway, thanks to a series of community-driven intiatives which mean the town is no stranger to taking steps toward a greener future. ✋ However, there is no getting carried away with 46.46 kilotonnes of CO2 being emitted annually, meaning there is still plenty of work that must be done - especially when it will use up the entirety of its carbon budget as soon as 2030 if it continues at its current rate. 🌳 When asked, 50% of residents said they would be willing take action to reduce emissions and fight climate change, with an appetite for a host of solutions uncovered, including overhauling the transport landscape in the town with electric vehicle taxis, EV chargers and E-scooters, along with smart thermostats and domestic solar panels to bring down emissions in the built environment. ⚡ Our proposed pathway for Downham Market could see emissions drop by almost 90% by 2050, though with limited land use space, there could be difficulties for new nature-based solutions.
