A polygenic risk scoring system can help predict glaucomatous risk factors, including intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation and changes to the optic nerve vertical cup-to-disc ratio (VCDR), according to a study published in JAMA Ophthalmology. The report, authored by the Australian research team who constructed the polygenic risk scoring system, suggests that use of these scores may sooner identify patients most likely to benefit from more intensive IOP-lowering treatments.
