Historic Moment at COP29: Articles 6.2 and 6.4 of the Paris Agreement Adopted. Read more by Emmeline Willey: https://bit.ly/4fZwR2i This news paves the way for a global carbon market and new mechanisms to accelerate climate action. Here’s what this milestone means: 🔹 Article 6.4 establishes a centralized international carbon market, replacing the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). 🔹 Article 6.2 provides a framework for countries to trade carbon credits as Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), ensuring transparency and preventing double counting. This marks a significant step forward in scaling up climate investments in developing countries, with a strong focus on aligning with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. #CarbonMarket #COP29 #ParisAgreement #Climate #CarbonCredits

The upcoming COP29 is poised to significantly influence carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, particularly within the Blue Zone discussions. Article 6 establishes mechanisms for countries to collaborate in achieving their climate goals through both market and non-market approaches. These negotiations will have a lasting impact on carbon markets. I've started a newsletter called Atmosphere Flux where you will get more content like this. COP29: A Turning Point in Global Climate Action https://buff.ly/3CA3HbT The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is set to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, 2024. This annual summit continues the global dialogue on combating climate change, bringing together leaders, policymakers, scientists, and activists from nearly 200 countries. As climate impacts intensify worldwide, the stakes for this year’s conference are higher than ever. Setting the Stage: Why COP29 Matters COP29 follows a series of climate conferences where commitments have been made but progress has been slow. With the global temperature edging closer to the critical 1.5°C threshold, the conference will aim to turn ambitious pledges into actionable strategies. It provides an opportunity to address the gaps in financing, implementation, and inclusivity, ensuring that every country contributes to the global effort to reduce emissions and build resilience against climate impacts. #COP29 #ClimateAction #GlobalClimateSummit #UNFCCC #ClimateChange2024 #Sustainability #NetZeroGoals #BakuCOP29 #ClimateResilience #ParisAgreement #1Point5Degrees #ClimateFinance #ClimateLeadership #SustainableFuture #GreenInitiatives #CarbonNeutrality #ClimatePolicy #GlobalEmissions #ClimateAdaptation #RenewableEnergy

The Paris Agreement: A Global Commitment to Combat Climate Change The Paris Agreement is an international climate change treaty that was reached at COP 21 in 2015 and officially entered into force in 2016. This landmark agreement marked a significant step forward in global efforts to combat climate change. At the heart of the Paris Agreement is a vital goal: to limit the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, while striving to limit the temperature rise to 1.5°C. This dual target reflects the urgent need to mitigate the most severe impacts of climate change. The term "pre-industrial temperatures" refers to the climate conditions between 1850 and 1900, which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) uses as a baseline for comparison with current temperatures. This historical perspective underscores the rapid changes our planet is experiencing due to human activity. Achieving these temperature goals requires unprecedented collaboration among nations. The Paris Agreement encourages all countries, regardless of their development status, to set and meet their own Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)—the individual plans that outline how each country intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As of now, nearly 200 countries have committed to the Paris Agreement, showcasing a collective recognition of the climate crisis and the need for urgent action. However, many experts argue that current commitments are insufficient to meet the 1.5°C target, highlighting the necessity for increased ambition. The Paris Agreement serves as a crucial framework for nations to come together, share strategies, and work towards a sustainable future. Each step taken under this agreement brings us closer to a resilient planet. #NetZeroGreenBharat #CarbonHydrogenX #ParisAgreement #ClimateAction #COP21 #Sustainability #GlobalWarming #TemperatureGoals #ClimateChange #NDCs #InternationalCooperation #EnvironmentalProtection

🌍 COP29 Day 2 Recap: Strengthening Climate Commitments 🌍 On the second day of COP29, global leaders united to reaffirm their commitments to the Paris Agreement, focusing on keeping global temperature rise within 1.5°C. Key discussions emphasized the need for ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and addressing the gaps in climate financing. A major focus was the establishment of the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), aiming to mobilize at least $100 billion annually starting in 2025 to support developing countries in their climate adaptation efforts. Additionally, a summit led by the U.S. and China focused on reducing methane and other greenhouse gases, which are critical to achieving these global targets. Day 2 set the stage for collaborative action toward climate justice and highlighted the urgency for financial and technical support to ensure sustainable, inclusive progress. 🌱 #COP29 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #ParisAgreement #GlobalClimate
