🌱 Can a whole sector unite to protect biodiversity? 🌍 Last week in Berlin, I had the privilege of presenting at an event organized by Food for Biodiversity. I shared the exciting progress of our collaboration with the IUCN, a global leader in conservation, as we work to develop practical guidance for companies in our sector. Our aim is to help businesses create effective biodiversity strategies and monitoring frameworks tailored to their local catchment areas. But here's the key takeaway: protecting biodiversity takes teamwork. 🌿 🔗 It requires partnerships. To fully understand local ecosystems, assess risks, and implement restoration or preservation solutions, collaboration is essential. Our companies can (and certainly will!) make all the effort to become nature positive, but they will still depend on local NGOs, policymakers, fellow businesses, and academics to bring unique expertise and perspectives to the table. So, to everyone striving to make nature stewardship a priority: let’s connect, share ideas, and build solutions. 🛠️ 🌍 #Biodiversity #WaterStewardship #NatureRestoration Natural Mineral Waters Europe (NMWE)

Steel is a critical material for sustainable development, and it is essential that the embodied impacts on the environment are minimised. Like other key construction materials, most of the impacts on climate and biodiversity occurs within the supply chain. Over the past decades there has been significant effort by the steel industry to start decarbonising steel. We, at Nature Positive, are welcoming the opportunity to provide our support to recent conversations in industry forums about moving towards minimising biodiversity impacts too, especially during mining, transport and the processing of steel. In today’s #MakingAnImpactMonday, we recognize our role in shaping the environment. 🌍 At Envu, we are committed to mitigating our environmental impact across our 21 global operating sites through proactive biodiversity assessments. In 2023, we’ve made significant strides: ✅ Completed biodiversity assessments at 75% of our locations, allowing us to understand local species and ecosystem health. ✅ Restored 4.8 hectares of native forest at our Paulinia, Brazil site. ✅ Implemented a series of sustainability initiatives to protect biodiversity. Looking ahead, we aim to complete assessments at all sites by 2025, ensuring compliance with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) endangered species list. These evaluations will become a requirement for all new locations. By conducting these biodiversity assessments and taking proactive measures, we are not only safeguarding the natural habitats around our operations but also aligning with the global benchmarks set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Credits tied to single ecosystem services have the potential to drive corporate action in the emerging biodiversity market, as they could help companies effectively address their dependencies on nature, according to Eric Wilburn, founder of NatureBridge LLC. Rather than using biodiversity as the core unit at a time when the market is not yet mature, Wilburn suggests shifting the focus to ecosystem services to spark corporate interest. "Many players in the market are working towards standardised biodiversity credits, seeing them as the Holy Grail, but the truth is this model is a bit disconnected from reality – we need to meet companies where they're at," he told our reporter Sergio Colombo. Some ecosystem services could prove more suited than others for crediting schemes, such as water quality and quantity, due to fewer challenges with monitoring and the large number of companies relying on them. Making an impact with World Biodiversity Day: Today, we celebrate #BiodiversityDay as a way to raise awareness on biodiversity loss and to highlight the importance of biodiversity in addressing sustainable development challenges. Honorable Keynote Speaker of our upcoming International Conference on Environment and Natural Science Dr. Vivek K Gaurav takes out time to share his valuable insights on this special occasion. He shed light on emphasizing the crucial role of "Environmental Communication in Biodiversity Preservation". Vivek K Gaurav (PhD) Here is what he said when asked about his thoughts on celebrating International Biodiversity Day:- "On this World Biodiversity Day 2024, under the theme “Be part of the Plan,” its important to emphasize the crucial role of Environmental Communication in biodiversity preservation. This call to action urges governments, indigenous peoples, local communities, NGOs, lawmakers, businesses, and individuals to actively support the implementation of the Biodiversity Plan. Effective environmental communication transforms ecological concerns into public issues, mobilizing global attention and support. By naming problems, assigning responsibility, and demanding accountability, we can reframe power dynamics and halt destructive practices. Let us recognize that everyone has a role in promoting transparency, engaging the public, and safeguarding our planet’s biodiversity. Together, we can all be #PartOfThePlan." Let’s fight for a healthy and productive future. Only together can we secure it. #callforaction #togetherwecan #savetheplanet #saveenvironment #lifeonearth #celebratewithus
