Nystagmus is a condition characterised by involuntary, rapid eye movements that can make stable vision a challenge. These movements, often described as shaking or wobbling of the eyes, can be constant or appear only in certain positions or when looking in specific directions. For individuals navigating the options for low vision aids, understanding Nystagmus could be essential. 🌍 World Sight Day: Seeing Beyond Eyesight 👁️ On World Sight Day, we’re reminded that over 2.2 billion people globally experience vision impairment, with 1 billion cases preventable. Leading causes like refractive errors and cataracts can be treated, yet millions lack access to care, especially in low-income regions. The financial impact? A staggering $411 billion in global productivity losses each year. While most vision impairment affects those over 50, it can happen at any age. Today, we’re called to take action—to increase access to eye care and prevent avoidable blindness. But beyond the physical, vision is about understanding, purpose, and clarity. Let’s not only restore sight but also help others see beyond the surface, embracing deeper meaning in life. 🌟 Author: Dr. Wilna Rautenbach #WorldSightDay #VisionHealth #EyeCareForAll #BlindnessPrevention #GratitudeForSight #Ophthalmology #VisionBeyondEyesight

A recent study concluded that illumination helped increase physical activity among those with a vision impairment (https://lnkd.in/eSPXdbFc). Make sure your patients are employing good lighting at home—and are using appropriate task lighting (like with our new Elumentis light) to more easily accomplish near tasks! #illumination #vision #elumentis

If you mess around with the lens on your camera or a magnifying glass, objects become blurrier or more distinct, near and far, as you adjust. For your eyes, they need to be calibrated just right in their shape in order to see clearly. Being just a little off can create a refractive error like near- or far-sightedness. Over 150 million Americans are thought to live with a refractive error, though many are unaware their sight could be better. Central vision loss is the loss of detailed vision, and it will feel like missing detail or seeing blurry spots in the centre of a persons visual field. Peripheral vision loss, on the other hand, affects the wide angle visual view and creates a sense of seeing through a narrow tube. 👓 Understanding Vision: Your eye shape plays a key role in how you see: 🔹 Nearsightedness (Myopia): The eye is longer, causing distant objects to appear blurry. 🔹 Normal Vision: Light focuses perfectly on the retina for clear sight. 🔹 Farsightedness (Hyperopia): The eye is shorter, making near objects blurry. Regular eye exams can help detect and correct these refractive errors. Protect your vision! ✨ #EyeCare #Nearsightedness #Farsightedness #HealthyVision

Not all blind people see the world in complete darkness. In reality, vision impairment comes in many forms, and each person’s experience is unique. Some individuals may see blurry patches, while others might lose peripheral vision or have difficulty distinguishing shapes and details. But losing vision does not mean losing hope. With the right support and rehabilitative training, people can still lead fulfilling and independent lives. 👏 Watch the video to see how vision can change for someone with various eye conditions. Understanding Common Vision Issues 👁️📖 Vision problems can manifest in different ways, each affecting how we see the world. Here’s a quick guide to four common conditions: 1. Double Vision: This occurs when you see two images of a single object. It may be caused by issues with eye alignment, nerve damage, or lens problems. 2. Astigmatism: Blurred or distorted vision due to an irregularly shaped cornea or lens. This makes it hard to see details clearly at all distances. 3. Poor Focusing (Accommodation): Difficulty focusing on objects up close or far away, common as we age. This can make it hard to switch focus between near and far objects. 4. Eye Movement Problems: When eye muscles don’t work in sync, it can cause jerky or misaligned vision. This affects how the eyes track moving objects or align images from each eye. Each condition impacts daily life differently, but the good news is that most can be managed with proper diagnosis and treatment. Regular eye exams are essential to detect these issues early and maintain clear, comfortable vision! #VisionAwareness #EyeHealth #Astigmatism #DoubleVision #EyeCare #NeelamEyeHospital #EyeExams #Optometry

#FactFriday: Peripheral vision is extremely low-resolution and almost monochrome because there are few colour receptors in the peripheral retina. We don't notice this because as soon as you wonder about the blurry periphery, your eye moves to fill in the detail before you discover it was missing.
