#CKD, chronic kidney disease, is a silent yet significant health issue affecting millions 🌍 worldwide. Undoubtedly, it's crucial to be aware of this progressive condition and try to prevent it or at least trigger appropriate treatment 🩺 at the right time. In light of the ongoing #kidney month and the upcoming #WorldKidneyDay let’s emphasize the importance of early detection, proactive management, and raising awareness about CKD. Here are a few key points to consider: 1️⃣ Regular #health screenings: Routine check-ups and screenings are essential for detecting CKD in its early stages. Early intervention can significantly slow down its progression and improve outcomes. 2️⃣ Lifestyle modifications: Adopting a healthy #lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, 🚴 and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, can mitigate the risk factors associated with #CKD. 3️⃣ Managing comorbidities: Individuals with conditions like #diabetes and #hypertension are at higher risk for developing CKD. Proper management of these comorbidities is crucial in preventing #kidney damage. 4️⃣ Patient education: Empowering #patients with knowledge🎓about CKD, its symptoms, and management strategies is key to promoting proactive #healthcare decisions and improving quality of life. 5️⃣ Advocacy and support: Collaborative efforts among healthcare professionals, #policymakers, and community organizations are vital in raising💡awareness, advocating for better access to care, and supporting individuals living with CKD. Let's unite to drive meaningful change and support those affected by #CKD. About 11% of #elderly living alone experience frailty, a multifactorial condition. Through the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging / Étude longitudinale canadienne sur le vieillissement Study on Aging (#CLSA), Myles O’Brien & Olga Theou reveal links between frailty, high blood pressure, and heart disease, highlighting the benefits of physical activity. https://lnkd.in/eKQSrnWd After a 3-year follow-up of 26K adults over 45, the study found that: 👉 Higher initial frailty linked to increased incidence of #hypertension and heart disease. 👉 Regular physical activity benefits heart health, especially for women, who tend to be more frail. The authors suggest that “modifiable movement factors such as sitting less and engaging in more strenuous physical activity may be feasible interventions for reducing the prevalence of frailty and high blood pressure” #HealthyAgingMonth #longitudinalstudy

In a recent study published in the BMC Medical Journal researchers found that there was a correlation between women who have heavy menstrual bleeding and risk of cardiovascular disease. 💓Given the historical bias in medical studies, seeing participants being mainly males, and research on men's health being prioritised, it is promising to see matters like these being looked deeper into. Gender disparities in causes of cardiovascular disease being especially important as it is the leading cause of death globally. The health harms of excessive sedentary behavior are clearer, thanks to work by Ezim Ajufo , Patrick Ellinor, Shaan Khurshid, and colleagues. The researchers examined one week of activity-tracker data from nearly 90,000 UK Biobank participants and associated daily time spent sitting with future risk of atrial fibrillation, heart attack, heart failure, and death from cardiovascular causes. Sedentary behavior was associated with higher risk of all four conditions, and additional physical activity did not fully compensate for sedentary behavior’s cardiovascular impacts. The findings could help inform future public health efforts. Read more in JACC. #BroadInstitute #Science #ScienceNews #Research #ScientificResearch
