These projects, to be completed by FY2028-29, will create 114 lakh man-days of employment during the construction phase. For the same India is expanding its national highways to over 200,000 kilometers and increase access-controlled highways tenfold by 2037, the country aims to enhance efficiency and reduce logistical costs. Key Highlights: - India's road network has surged by 59% since 2013. - Currently, the country boasts 1,46,145 kilometers of national highways. - Over 2 lakh national highways are slated to be constructed by 2037. - Access-controlled high-speed highways are set to soar from 4,000 km to 50,000 km. - India is planning to slash road accidents by 95% over the next 25 years by providing quality roads and teaching road ethics and safety measures. India's road network has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, with the government making significant investments to modernize and expand the country's highways. The total length of National Highways has increased by 60% from 91,287 km in 2014 to 146,145 km in 2023. The pace of National Highway construction has accelerated from about 12 km/day in 2014-15 to 34 km/day in 2023-24. This has been achieved through systematic corridor-based development and initiatives like the Bharatmala Pariyojana. The budgetary outlay to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has gone from INR 30,320 Crore ($ 3.6 Bn) in 2014-15 to INR 2.7 lakh Crore ($ 33 Bn) in 2023-24. These achievements showcase India's commitment to building a world-class road network that supports economic growth and enhances the quality of life for citizens.
