Shining the spotlight on oropharyngeal cancer: While often grouped with oral cancers, oropharyngeal cancer has a distinct emerging cause—HPV (Human Papillomavirus). Difficulty swallowing: Experiencing pain or difficulty when swallowing. 3. Voice changes: Noticing changes in the voice, such as hoarseness or not sounding like yourself. 🌟 Concerned about these symptoms? Don’t wait. National Cancer Prevention Month is a reminder that proactive and early detection plays a crucial role in fighting cancer. A new study about breast cancer surveillance from Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Northern California found that women who had been treated for DCIS, a type of early breast cancer, were more likely to detect a second cancer through mammograms and self-exams rather than during routine check-ups. Incorporating multiple methods of monitoring breast health in addition to regular checkups with health care providers can make all the difference in catching a recurrence of cancer early, when it's most treatable. #NationalCancerPreventionMonth

🔍 How fast does oral cancer spread? 🔍 The speed at which oral cancer spreads varies based on several factors: ✨ The type of oral cancer you have, the location of the tumor, and the stage it was in when you started treatment are key determinants. 🔬 More than 90% of oral cancers are squamous cell carcinomas, which can progress rapidly and spread to nearby or distant regions of the body. 📈 According to a 2021 review, about 3–7% of oral squamous cell carcinomas spread to a secondary location each year. ⏱️ Some metastases can develop in as little as 3 months after treating the primary tumor.
