Robust vital statistics and civil registry systems and capacities remain a challenge in a number of Pacific Islands impacting health agencies' abilities to effectively monitor, verify, analyze, and report key health indicator trends such as causes of death and number of births with accuracy and confidence. This has been a long journey supported under the Brisbane Accord Group. We are very appreciative of the continued strong partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) who supported and co-facilitated a deep-dive vital statistics reporting workshop in Honolulu with PIHOA and CDC/PIHOA experts held last week with vital statistics focal points from American Samoa and Guam. We are keen to see the outcomes of this work for American Samoa and Guam. This work is one component of a series of targeted activities over the last couple of years to strengthen and enhance USAPI health agency vital statistics systems and capacities under guidance of the USAPI Civil Registry and Vital Statistics Working Group comprised of USAPI health agency vital statistics focal points supported by key technical partners such as ASTHO, CDC, PIHOA, SPC, WHO, and many others. #Brisbane Accord Group
