This is me just out of uni early last year (admittedly posing a little), getting ready for my future finance career. Until I realised the progression/earning potential with recruitment and how much my finance degree was an asset. Why a Finance Background is a Game-Changer in Recruitment.... Here’s why: - Analytical Mindset - Business Acumen - Risk Management - Negotiation Skills In recruitment, a finance background isn’t just beneficial; it’s a game-changer. It allows you to bring a unique perspective, adds depth to your understanding of business needs, and ultimately, helps you place candidates who truly fit the role and contribute to a company’s financial health. I have been speaking with many students recently.. And have received a common query.. "How do we get into core Finance roles?" Let us understand this. Most of us believe that we have the skills needed for these roles, but how do we know if we are really good at those skills, when compared to our peers. Also, think from the recruiter's viewpoint. How does a company choose between 100 candidates who all are saying they have the skills? There 2 issues to be addressed here in my opinion. 1) I may believe I have the skills when there is a scope of improving on those 2) I have the skills but am unable to communicate that to the company I need to find out which of these is the core issue. How? First, I should ask myself - If I had an interview in the next 2 hours, would I be surely be in a position to crack it? If I am not certain, then more work is needed on the skills. I need to work on those and Prepare. If I am confident of the abilities - then I should focus on addressing the second problem. I need to practice and create a body of work. This needs to be added to my application to companies. I have to try and showcase what value can I add to the company! What problem can I solve for them, and why am I the best suited for the role. I need to put myself in the recruiter's shoes, and then think what would make them shortlist my resume. Note that it still does not guarantee a short list. But without the skills, the chances are significantly lower. ----- Peeyush Chitlangia, CFA I help professionals enhance their career in #valuation and #investmentbanking Follow me and do reach out if you think I could be of help.
