🌊 Locals know the Oregon Coast is as beautiful as it is unpredictable. Last week’s tsunami warning and this weekend’s King Tides are great reminders to respect the ocean’s power, and always be prepared for the unexpected. This week, we launched a winter beach safety ad campaign to equip visitors and locals with tips to enjoy the coast safely. From checking tide schedules to navigating terrain cautiously, we’re helping everyone “Coast Like a Local” year-round. Key Tips to Share: ✅ Know before you go. Check tide schedules! ✅ Review tsunami evacuation routes in your area. ✅ Avoid standing near cliffs and don’t climb on driftwood. ✅ Never turn your back on the ocean. ✅ Respect the waves, stay safe, and enjoy the coast like a local. Thanks to our contributing parters for the winter campaign— Oregon Parks And Recreation Department, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)—for helping us share this important message, so we all can enjoy our beaches safely. Let’s spread the message! Share our social posts or use our tips to help visitors navigate the coast responsibly.

🐦 Did you know that Texas plays a key role in the migration of nearly 2 billion birds each year? Around 1/3 birds migrating north in spring and 1/4 migrating south in the fall pass through the Lone Star State, making it a vital part of one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles. With most North American birds migrating at night, city lights can disorient them, leading to deadly collisions with buildings—up to 1 billion birds die annually this way. 🌟 Lights Out, Texas! 🌃 is working to raise awareness and take action to protect these migratory birds. By turning off your lights from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m, we can help save millions of lives. Let's work together to ensure that Texas remains a safe passage for birds on their incredible journey. Spring will be here in Colorado soon. While the weather is definitely less intense than winter, it’s still important to consider where you’re going and what you’ll need. - Many visitors make the mistake of assuming that the weather won’t change much. If you leave your hotel or cabin at noon and 50℉, don’t assume it will stay that way. In the shadow of the mountain, the temperature can be much lower. At Night, the mountains will still drop well below freezing. Dress in layers and pack accordingly. - Paths and trails can get really unpredictable, especially in the backcountry. The paved trails that see a lot of traffic are usually okay, but if you’re following some deer trail through the mountains, be careful. The soil can drop out from under you or rocks can drop on your from above. Stay alert. - Spring is when lots of animals are having babies. Nothing is more dangerous than a protective parent. If you see a family of animals, even raccoons or deer, back away. Even a small rodent can put you in a lot of pain if it thinks you might hurt its young. - That little baby animal is probably not lost. It seems every year we read stories of someone who walked off a mountain with a kitty or a puppy they thought was lost. There’s a really good chance there’s a parent nearby that will be back soon. If you’re really concerned, call Colorado Parks and Wildlife 303-297-1192 or 877-265-6648. Let them know what you saw and why you’re concerned. There is really no place like Colorado in the springtime. Go out. Have fun. Be safe. Let people know where you’re going. Drop us a line if you’re doing something near Steamboat; maybe we can stop by! #Steamboat #OutdoorSafety #TravelTips #HikingColorado #WildlifeAwareness

𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐝𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞! Did you know the Maya Forest Corridor isn't just crucial for Belize, but for the entire Mesoamerican region? Here are four cool facts: 1. Covering 300 km2, this corridor links the lush forests of the Maya Mountain Massif to Belize's Northern Protected Areas. 2. Jaguars and other wildlife depend on the corridor to roam for food and mates, making it a lifeline for their survival. 3. The wetlands within the corridor are home to the critically endangered Central American River Turtle, locally known as the “Hicatee.” 4. Plus, these wetlands play a vital role in shielding Belize City and nearby communities from flooding during severe storms. Let's keep celebrating and protecting this natural wonder! #MayaForestCorridor #Belize #NatureFacts

Safeguarding Swallows During Storms 🐦 Migratory birds, particularly swallows, have been facing significant challenges with the recent extreme weather. In Vienna and Lower Austria, heavy rains and squalls have forced hundreds of swallows to seek shelter on house facades, under bridges, and in other nooks. 🏠🌉 Swallows are uniquely vulnerable because they only hunt insects in flight. 🦟 When bad weather grounds them, they risk starvation. In these situations, it’s important not to scare or disturb them—they need to conserve every bit of energy. 🦅 Unlike other birds, swallows won’t accept food from the ground or a bowl, therefore direct feeding won’t help. Here’s what you could do instead: 🌟 Allow them to rest undisturbed until the weather improves. 🌟 If you have a barn or outbuilding where swallows nest, consider leaving the entrance open—it can offer vital refuge during storms. If you find a swallow on the ground that’s too weak to fly, it’s essential to act quickly. Bring it to a wildlife rescue center, like our OWL & BIRDS OF PREY RESCUE STATION HARINGSEE, where experts can provide the care it needs. 🛟 Let’s do our part to protect these fragile travellers! 🌍 #MigratoryBirds #ProtectNature #AnimalWelfare 📸: © VIER PFOTEN
