Advancing the Fight Against AIDS Through Clinical Research On this #WorldAIDSDay, we honor the groundbreaking strides made through clinical research in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. Clinical trials have paved the way for life-saving therapies, transforming what was once a devastating diagnosis into a manageable condition for millions. These advancements would not be possible without the tireless efforts of researchers, healthcare professionals, and the bravery of trial participants. Organizations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other NGOs and philanthropies have played a pivotal role in funding research and making therapies accessible to underserved communities worldwide. While we’ve come far, the journey is not over. Continued investment in clinical research is vital to reach the ultimate goal: a world free of AIDS. At Clinical Research Learning Network we are proud to champion the power of clinical trials in driving medical breakthroughs. Together, we can continue to make a difference. #WorldAIDSDay #ClinicalResearch #HIVAwareness #EndAIDS #MedicalAdvancements #GlobalHealth #ResearchMatters #CRLN What are your reflections on this day? Combined antiretroviral drugs (cART) have improved outcomes for people living with HIV. Still, these drugs are associated with comorbidities, for example, (abnormal weight gain, and increased risk of cardiovascular diseases) that undermine the success of the drugs. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) background might be able to explain which groups are more at risk for these comorbidities. Here the authors showed in treatment-naive subjects that those carrying the European haplogroup UK mtDNA exhibit lower weight gain following cART initiation, irrespective of cART, compared to the other Eurasian sub-haplogroups. https://lnkd.in/e3QybRmC #HIV #cART #Mitochondria #haplogroup
