The journey of Government U.P. School, Valiyathura in Thiruvananthapuram district, which once served as a refuge for families devastated by the 2018 Ockhi disaster and relentless sea attacks, has been transformed from a state of abandonment into a thriving hub of education. This remarkable revival, celebrated on June 3rd with the inaugural 'Praveshanolsavam,' was made possible through the collaboration between Acsia Technologies and Kanal Innovations Charitable Trust under their "Gift a Dream" initiative. Through the creation of a smart seminar hall, a new children's library, and the provision of school kits, Acsia has turned this symbol of desolation into a beacon of hope. PR 360 has been privileged to be involved from the outset, providing PR support and contributing to this significant transformation. We firmly believe that education is the greatest power one can possess, and Acsia Technologies has imparted this power to the most deserving and needy students. Once hosting over 200 students, the school had become a refuge for nearly 120 families. However, in this academic year, the number of students has surged to nearly 100 from just 30 last year, breathing new life into the classrooms. We hope this exceptional story inspires other companies to undertake similar initiatives. We wanted to share some amazing news from Uganda – the Ministry of Education has recently committed to building new facilities at one of our partner schools, Kamuganguzi Janan Luwum Secondary School. They have allocated funding for 2 science labs, 4 new classrooms, teachers accommodation, an administration block and new toilets. This is in recognition of the increased enrolment at the school, which we have helped to bring about – by improving existing facilities and funding a school meals programme, both of which have helped to attract new students – and also by supporting a number of pupils through the school through our scholarship programme. The welcoming and inclusive ethos of the school has also been a contributory factor, which made us sure that this was the right school to partner with when we first started working with the school management in 2012.   We are so delighted for the school as this is a massive endorsement of their work and will make such a difference to the future sustainability of the school as this will enable them to attract even more students. As a board member, I've had the privilege of witnessing their growth and now supporting them in various capacities. Most recently, they’ve undertaken the monumental task of running their own school - completely free, with no barriers to admission (and priority given to girl children), aiming to provide the best education possible in the area. Education is the most powerful weapon and we're committed to ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of access. The NGO, Satyashodhak Mahila Vikas Mandal, established in 1986, is dedicated to creating impactful change. With 12A, 80G, and CSR-1 certifications, we are fully eligible to accept donations for philanthropic projects. We are also a registered member of NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, ensuring transparency and credibility. Every donor will benefit from tax exemptions. School Management Committee (SMC) Meeting at GPS Bamnara Date: [18/5/2024] Location: GPS Bamnara Participants:Youth Club President,Parents and School Management Committee (SMC) Members Agenda: 1.Addressing the issue of a damaged tree in school premises. 2.Organizing a fund for the school from the local community (Pind) for the welfare of school. Meeting Summary: A meeting of The School Management Committee (SMC) of GPS Bamnara was held by Sanjhi Sikhiya Fellow to discuss relevant issues affecting the school. The meeting was attended by the Youth Club President, several parents, and SMC members. Key Points Discussed: Damaged stems of Tree Issue: A damaged tree in the school premises poses a potential safety hazard to students and staff. Decision: It was unanimously agreed that the damaged stems of tree should be cut down to prevent any accidents or injuries. The SMC will coordinate with local authorities and ensure that the tree is safely removed as soon as possible. Fundraising for School: Proposal: To enhance the resources and infrastructure of the school, it was proposed that a fund should be raise with the involvement of the local community (Pind). Action Plan: The Youth Club President and one young smc member vikrant offered to take the lead in collecting funds.Parents and SMC members pledged their support and participation. Next Steps: Tree Removal: Immediate action will be taken to arrange for the safe removal of the damaged tree. Fundraising Formation: The Youth Club President along with smc members will collect funds till next smc meeting Conclusion: The meeting concluded on a positive note with a clear action plan for addressing the immediate safety concern and enhancing the school's resources through community involvement. The participants expressed their commitment to working together for the betterment of GPS Bamnara. We are deeply grateful for the active participation and unwavering commitment from everyone involved.
