❌ The new @European Commission must prioritise partnership over competition. The European Union is shifting its focus on short-term economic self-interest and an outdated security approach which disregards people-centred solutions, ignoring its international cooperation Treaty obligations to fight poverty and inequality and to promote human rights. It is in the EU's interest to maintain its leading position in promoting sustainable development, to build trust with partner countries and to work for global wellbeing, peace and stability. We have sent a letter to the President-designate of the @European Commission, Ms @Ursula von der Leyen to raise the concerns and proposals of European civil society working on international cooperation and sustainable development. The open letter is available on CONCORD website ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ePFPFq6D

European Week of Regions and Cities This event is dedicated to one of the most important policies of the EU — cohesion policy, which is aimed at uniform economic, social and territorial development within the European Union and the implementation of the Green and digital transition on the ground. To achieve these goals, cohesion policy relies on multi-level governance — cooperation between the state, regional and local levels of government of all EU member states. The event is organized by the Directorate of Regional Development of the European Commission, which is a kind of ministry of regional development of the EU. A large part of the program is devoted to topics relevant for Europe: • stimulation of the energy transition (transition from fossil fuels to alternative fuels) and decarbonization; • participatory approaches to solving local development problems; • implementation of innovative solutions on the ground; • overcoming the outflow of labor resources from rural areas and small towns; • creation of functional zones, or metropolises; The formats of the event are impressive in their diversity - speeches by the first persons of the EU and the European Commission, mayors and heads of regions, hundreds of stands, workshops, outings, presentations, panel discussions, parallel thematic events in all European institutions. In total, the program typically includes more than 100 parallel activities (196). All this in order to discuss the challenges facing European regions and cities, promote the exchange of experience and initiate new partnerships. At this event, you can meet a fairly wide audience - from European commissioners and politicians, mayors and officials of European cities and regions, to European experts on local development, journalists and business consultants on the implementation of European projects. The atmosphere of the event is quite friendly, which allows almost anyone to communicate with top politicians and officials without any obstacles. Members of Cherkasy Regional Development Agency are planning to visit the event and and as a result to benefit from it as much as it's possible. See you in Brussels in October, Friends. https://lnkd.in/dRN38HCU
