Improvisation is the art of taking the stage without preparation. For lawyers and other professionals in many sectors who are trained to over-prepare, this concept is often foreign. The Second City's Lisa Merchant has been studying, performing and teaching the art of improvisation for over 30 years. On February 5, she will once again join Osgoode to lead participants through classic improvisation exercises and drills that will help professionals from all walks of life to think on their feet and react to the unexpected with confidence. Improvisation on the 5th of January 2022 at 23:00 (excerpt 1). Better with some headphones, maybe (or certainly!) I prefered not to cut or edit it, whatever the (obvious?) flaws. Instinctive and spontaneous first drafts, or sketches, of a possible future track. There maybe slight speed problems around 0:28 (or kind of). But not during a long time. Anyway, the idea of the whole piece, or improvisation, revolves around some speed variations. Or around the speed variations between the left hand and the right hand, which is, of course, not easy. I just show how I work. And without hiding myself. Or without a net. Moreover, it doesn't interest anyone. As no one listens carefully to what I do. Never mind then. Or at least make the effort of relistening to it with some headphones!

If you perform or speak in public, do you record your practices and rehearsals? I do for two reasons: 1) I learn that I suck—at least some of the time. 2) I learn that I am great—at least some of the time. Oh and reason 3 is that armed with what I learned in reasons 1 and 2, I can improve and then suck less, and be great more. So can you.
