Taxi drivers love Monsoons. Not because they are water babies, but because their apps start showing heat zones of demand, the moment it starts raining. Surge of 1.7x to 2x over regular pricing, puts the heat under the taxi drivers, to quickly grab any ride request. A case of making hay while the Sun shines (monsoon more like it). Is surge pricing in apps, an insane way to service high demand during peak hours? Weren't these taxi apps more about democratising travel and solving the problem of connecting taxis with customers, thereby creating ease of travel? Same with airline ticketing and now Railways. While on a ride, my driver got a notification to accept another booking. In that brief moment of distraction, he lost balance, and we both ended up falling. Thankfully, the speed wasn’t high, and we both escaped with minor injuries. But what if the situation had been worse? Not everyone might be as lucky. These apps are designed to optimize efficiency, but is it worth risking lives for a quicker response time? A distracted driver is a danger not only to themselves but also to their passengers and others on the road. As users, we trust these platforms with our safety, and it’s their responsibility to take every possible measure to ensure it. I urge companies like Rapido, Uber, and Ola to address this issue and prioritize safety over operational speed. Dear Rapido Team, I’ve noticed something in the app when booking an auto ride. After modifying the fare, a message appears: "Captains aren't accepting at this amount, try adding more, along with an illustration of a driver refusing the ride. As a designer, I believe illustrations should thoughtfully convey emotions. However, this particular one seems to unintentionally stereotype auto drivers as unwilling to accept certain fares. While I understand fare adjustments are necessary, the image feels like a broad generalization of all drivers, when it’s only a case-by-case scenario. Many users already experience frustration when booking rides, but it’s important to remember that not all drivers behave this way. Additionally, if captains aren’t accepting a certain fare, offering the option to modify the price may confuse users. While the feature's intent might be different, as a user, it feels misleading since it suggests we can set a fare that will be accepted when it's actually predetermined. Rapido, I kindly request that you reconsider and update the illustration to better reflect a more neutral and accurate representation of drivers. Thank you for considering this feedback!
