Here are some costs to take into consideration when purchasing a property in Spain!

After spending over a decade in tech consulting at CGI, I spent the last 2 years diving into the immigration system at Nava Wilson LLP. After hearing from 100s of people who shared their stories, one thing is clear: the immigration system is failing many. Of Canada’s 40 million residents, 2.5 million are temporary residents trying to secure one of the 500K PR slots. They’ll compete amongst each other and those applying from abroad. They were told finishing school or work here would lead to PR. Unfortunately, about 4 in 5 will return home disappointed after spending thousands of dollars. Over time, the compounding disappointments will impact Canada’s brand. To the government’s credit, federal and provincial websites detail the various programs. But navigating over 60 programs with different eligibility requirements is daunting. So people turn to Immigration Lawyers and Consultants who have to rely on their memory and spreadsheets to match candidates to programs they know. Candidates leave the consultation with a snapshot of their potential path. Programs will continue to evolve long after the consultation. This needs to be fixed. Understanding one's path to PR and how it evolves with new programs shouldn’t be this hard. My team and I are working on making it easy for candidates to find their path through an affordable, convenient solution. After we pointed out last year that Stena Line has an appetite to become active in the Strait of Gibraltar, this is now the first solid step. It will be exciting to see how two of the largest Northern European RoPax shipping companies successfully establish themselves in the growing market with completely different mechanisms than those known from Northern Europe. The business is not a one-on-one business and it is very demanding due to the tenders on both sides in Spain as well as in Morocco. Every organization is much more challenged here than in other short ferry operating areas, especially during the OPE and Ramadan! But it is also wonderful for the region, because now there is a chance that modern tonnage will be used and a standard.
