This article highlights a program between Henrico High School and the Virginia Chapter of the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) to introduce high school students to the fire protection industry. The initiative provides students with hands-on experience installing fire sprinklers in newly constructed homes, exposing them to the trade and its career opportunities. In my opinion, the potential for expansion to include fire alarm systems is an intriguing prospect that could further enhance the program's impact and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the fire protection field for participating students. This initiative could significantly benefit the fire protection industry by fostering interest and attracting new talent. Overall, the program offers a valuable approach to addressing the industry's need for skilled workers and fostering a future generation of fire protection professionals. #AFSA #firesprinkler #fireprotection #construction #trades #vocationaltrainng https://lnkd.in/ghUEXHT8

Imagine executing a powerful takedown, only to find yourself and the suspect slamming into unforgiving concrete. The potential for injury skyrockets. That's why at EFC, we emphasize technique adaptation to ensure safety in real-world scenarios. Instead of relying solely on traditional techniques, we integrate principles of control, positioning, and situational awareness into our curriculum to create a full spectrum combatives program. Officers need to be able to make split-second decisions that prioritize safety without sacrificing effectiveness. By teaching officers how to modify techniques for diverse environments, they are prepared to effectively respond to any situation while minimizing the risk of injury to themselves and others.

October is Pedestrian Safety Month and guess who was the first organization in Delaware to have a Public Safety Committee focusing on Pedestrian Crossing? You guessed it, Delaware Safety Council. This article regarding “Jay Walker” was published a year after the DSC was founded, in the now News Journal, on October 19, 1920., nearly 100 years before October became Pedestrian Safety Month. The Chairman of DSC’s Public Safety Committee was Josiah Marvel. Yes, THAT Josiah Marvel. The Josiah Marvel Award was established by the Delaware State Chamber in 1951 to honor a Delawarean who has made an outstanding contribution to the state, community or society. Josiah Marvel reorganized the state chamber and served as its first president in 1913. The presentation of the Marvel Cup is the main event of the chamber's annual dinner, and is often kept a secret until the event. Josiah Marvel, was also a president of the American Bar Association. Marvel ran for US Senate, but was defeated by Bayard. Each of the cities mentioned in the article had a local chairperson on the DSC’s committee. The Jay Walker mascot toured the state, teaching people how TO and how NOT TO cross the street. Jay Walker went into the Delaware schools as well, to teach proper street crossing. It was that already established relationship that helped DSC begin Driver’s Ed in all of the schools. #delawaresafetycouncil #DSC #safety #jaythewalker #delaware #DSCC #josiahmarvel
