On this day, commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, at OTB Group and OTB Foundation we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to this important cause. We strongly promote diverse initiatives within and beyond the Group’s framework, all designed to raise awareness of the violence women are subjected to, and to foster a transformative cultural shift, which starts with education. This is why we are committed to providing educational insights and opportunities for reflection, targeting both our employees internally and external audiences, such as schools and younger generations. Among the other initiatives, to mark this important day, as part of our D&I program we have organized a talk for our employees featuring Amani El Nasif, Syrian activist, writer, and author of "Sulla Nostra Pelle" ("On Our Skin"), who shared her powerful experience. It's everyone's responsibility to stand up against violence. #OTB #OTBGroup #OTBFoundation

As we kick off this month-long celebration of women's remarkable contributions and resilience throughout history, let's delve into the powerful term "Women of Color." "Women of Color" isn't just a phrase; it's a solidarity definition, a commitment to working collaboratively with women who have been minoritized across various ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. Today, we celebrate the richness this term embodies – a tapestry woven with the stories, struggles, and triumphs of women united by shared experiences of marginalization. This term is not biological; it's a commitment to recognizing and amplifying the historically marginalized voices. "Women of Color" unites us in solidarity, fostering connections that bridge gaps and break down barriers. It acknowledges that our collective strength lies in embracing diversity and standing together against systemic injustices. Throughout Women's History Month, let's continue to celebrate and uplift the achievements of all women, especially those often underrepresented. We weave a narrative of strength, resilience, and unity, honoring the commitment to working collaboratively as "Women of Color." Here's to the power of solidarity and its incredible impact on shaping history! https://lnkd.in/gNHuR3H7 #ShiftEDConsulting #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenOfColor #CelebrateDiversity #SolidarityInAction

“International Women’s Day is not for celebrating. It is for protesting against and raising awareness about the fact that people are still being oppressed or treated differently because of their gender.” Greta Thunberg. March is a big month for me, and for many other people who celebrate women and feminism. Today, and every day, respect women by listening to their needs and act accordingly. Support women by creating safe environments for them to thrive. Recruit women and compensate them equally. Celebrate women and their achievements. Promote women to leadership positions. Invest in women and in their businesses. Champion women by giving them a platform to be heard. "Women's freedom is the sign of social freedom" Rosa Luxemburg. For Women’s History Month I am compiling an ongoing list of resources under the motto: Support, share and contribute which can be found in the link below: https://lnkd.in/gP-NCJ4J #iwd #iwd2024 #feminism #womenindesign #womenintype #typography #lettering #typefacedesign

Let's not forget that International Women’s Day began as a day of protest On 19th of March 1911. On IWD, as we celebrate our successes and all of the big and small victories and improvements to women’s access to education, financial empowerment, and active participation in politics. We still need to acknowledge there is a long way to go until all women in the world have access to equal basic rights. Intersectional feminism urges us to address the challenges faced by individuals who are less privileged than ourselves. Our feminism lacks intersectionality if it doesn't advocate for the humanization of ALL WOMAN regardless of their color, religion and in which part of the world they were born. International Women's Day should be reformed. It's a perfect chance to reflect beyond the breakfast rituals, and past the pink sprinkled cupcakes. To ask ourselves what actions can I take starting from today to embrace a more inclusive feminism? IWD needs to be rethinked, away from the superficiality, and some instagram posts, to be used as an opportunity for meaningful advocacy for ALL WOMEN by challenging the existing norms and initiating discussions about the plight of women who don't get to "celebrate IWD". This day should serve as a call to action for meaningful change, not just a symbol represented by a flower and a pink cupcake!

Tomorrow, November 19, 2024, marks International Men’s Day, a day to honor and celebrate positive male role models. This year's theme highlights the importance of positive male role models. The emphasis on values, character, and responsibility highlights the foundational elements of what it means to be a positive role model in any society. Recognizing that society shapes men—and in turn, men shape society—underscores the shared accountability we hold in promoting equity and respect. Tying this reflection to the 2024 16 Days of Activism: Unite to End Violence Against Women (Beijing+30) provides a powerful framework. It calls for action and introspection: to question not just who man is and why a man, but also how men engage in creating a world free from violence and inequality. A few key takeaways to focus on during this day: 1. Collective Responsibility: Ending violence against women is not just a women’s issue; it requires men to actively participate in creating safe and equitable spaces. 2. Evolving Contexts: While the essence of manhood—purpose and identity—remains steady, adapting behaviors and roles to modern realities is crucial for progress. 3. Sustainable Equality: Positive male values and behavior must align with sustainable strategies that promote equality and respect for all. This day serves as an invitation to lead by example, embodying a purpose-driven life rooted in mutual respect, dignity, and equity. By reflecting on the roles and influences of men, we can reinforce their place as allies in achieving a more just and harmonious society. #socialprotection #inclusion #transformativemasculnity #helpingwithiuthurting #advocacy #16daysofActivism

Here's our 6th inspiring read by a woman of colour for #IWD2024: ‘Against White Feminism: Notes on Disruption’ by Rafia Zakaria. In this book, Rafia Zakaria argues for a reconstruction of feminism, offering a necessary and apt critique of how whiteness has infiltrated feminism, and how this has led to Black and Brown women’s erasure. In this critique, Zakaria aligns herself and her work with feminist activists such as the likes of Kimberlé Crenshaw, Adrienne Rich, and Audre Lorde to bring forth a feminism that is intersectional. Why we picked it: Thousand&One’s vision is a world where all women of colour feel safe, supported, and celebrated in the workplace. Our personal experiences along with our research and conversations with our community demonstrate how the combination of race and gender results in extremely difficult day-to-day experiences for WOC. It is clear to us that White feminism has not, and will not serve those of us on the margins. Instead, we opt for a feminism that is intersectional and inclusive. Are you a woman of colour, leader, or ally interested in creating more inclusive workplaces? Join our Thousand&One community today!
