Out of 120+ applicants to our job opening for a sales role on my team, one stood out above the rest. I only received four messages via LinkedIn or email about the role from candidates. Three of them were generic and only ONE was actually customized on LinkedIn AND via email. I knew that one deserved an interview more than the rest for the simple effort put into doing more than applying. If you want to get hired for a sales role (or any position really), demonstrate your sales skills for each opportunity you want to pursue: — Diversify your outreach across different channels (email, LinkedIn message, phone call) — Personalize your messages for the company and the recruiter/hiring manager — Network with other prospective stakeholders (ex: future teammates) — Follow up messaging: say thanks, express excitement, sell yourself again You’re selling yourself in each touch point with a prospective employer.
