Immigration is never an isolated issue, it’s deeply tied to #climatechange, #peace, and security. As climate disasters escalate, communities are forced to flee, leading to new challenges in managing borders and maintaining peace. Addressing climate change is not just about saving the environment; it’s about protecting lives, fostering security, and ensuring that migration happens in dignity, not desperation. We must act now for a future where peace and climate resilience go hand in hand.

Data Sovereignty is under a new threat. https://www.foia.gov/ Since 1967, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has provided the public the right to request access to records from any federal agency. It is often described as the law that keeps citizens in the know about their government. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions which protect interests such as personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement. Recently, documents issued from the Whitehouse, like strategies and frameworks for environmental resilience, and others have been removed from access to the Public. We are in the midst of an Information War. This threat spans beyond social media and news. Algorithmic filtration of data through the Information Highway limits knowledge and awareness of facts and reality. What information will the Public/Commons be restricted from, or denied next?

One of the first tools the Trump admin took down was CEJST. It sure would be frustrating to the administration's anti-EJ, anti-climate goals if someone had..... saved it.... 👀 https://lnkd.in/ebKs__2g Huge, timely effort from our team at the Public Environmental Data Project 🌎 #climate #EJ #CEJST

🌍 Papua New Guinea's Forestry and Economic Crisis 🌳🇵🇬 Papua New Guinea faces significant economic challenges, including continuous depreciation of kina value, a weak foreign exchange rate, and an over-reliance on foreign aid, for forestry conservation as well as other developments. In 2020, the government pledged to phase out round log exports by 2025 and increase downstream processing, yet this promise remains unfulfilled. Logging, both legal and illegal—persists, driven by corruption and fund mismanagement. While developed nations contribute funds for conservation, they also produce substantial carbon emissions through industrial activities, benefiting far more from these practices than the aid they provide. This leaves developing countries like PNG struggling to protect their forests. To address these pressing issues, it's essential for the government and those in leadership positions to prioritize transparency in financial management and accountability for mismanagement—not just in the forestry sector but across all sectors. Implementing strict oversight mechanisms will ensure that funds intended for conservation and development are used effectively. Forest conservation is critical for our environment and economy. We demand accountability and transparency from our leaders to safeguard our natural resources for us and our future generations. #PapuaNewGuinea #ForestryConservation #EconomicChallenges #RoundLogs #DownstreamProcessing #Deforestation #Transparency #Accountability
#LocalNews Prime Minister James Marape has requested the United Nations Secretariat to assist forest nations like Papua New Guinea advocate stronger forest preservation and climate financing to assist nations in their development aspirations. When climate disasters hit, Europe is stronger when we stand together. European Commission is proposing amendments to key EU regulations to quickly mobilise funds to support EU countries affected by unprecedented climate-related disasters. The amendments will cover: ➡️ The European Regional Development Fund ➡️ The Cohesion Fund ➡️ The European Union Solidarity Fund ➡️ The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development These measures, combined with existing available resources, will ensure that EU countries can rebuild using the ‘build back better' approach. 🟢 More sustainable, resilient, and inclusive societies are the way forward
