Lipton Teas and Infusions has agreed terms of a partnership which will result in the transfer of its tea estate in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania to Browns Investments alongside an agreement that all tea sold by Browns worldwide will be grown and harvested to a new set of standards covering quality, social and environmental protections. This long term partnership will make Browns the world's leading tea exporter - around 87 million kilograms each year as well as one of the largest suppliers to the world's largest tea company, LIPTON Teas and Infusions. By working together, the two companies will raise tea quality globally and accelerate the application of responsible farming methods across the industry to drive sustainable growth. Browns will invest in its estates in Kenya and Sri Lanka to meet the new standards by 2025, as well as in the creation of additional skilled employment opportunities in Kenya. #oureconomics #lipton #browns
The Tea Board of Sri Lanka and the relevant Authorities should carefully analyse this Proposed Joint Venture . The reason being the message is not crystal clear as to which Country is ultimately going to be beneficial either Sri Lanka or the African Countries, Primarily protecting SL Tea Industry incl; other Exporters .
Thanks to the stability and normalcy fostered by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, all industries are experiencing growth in every direction. It's crucial to acknowledge his leadership during challenging times when others shied away from responsibility. While outsiders recognize this, it's even more remarkable that citizens themselves can discern the positive trajectory of our nation under his guidance. We should express gratitude to the current President for his commitment. It's disheartening that some individuals, perhaps influenced by a rigid ideological stance, fail to acknowledge the government's efforts and only focus on past grievances. Let's not repeat the mistakes of the past, like those during the tumultuous period of 1988-1989.
I do hope that this joint venture will stabilise and expand the Srilankan tea market and not promote the teas of partner countries. I've experienced negative joint ventures and so called co-operation partners (s. Srilankan Airlines) who exploited our resources and caused a pseudo bankruptcy. Transparency, honesty and dedication to our Motherland is the foundation for successful economic growth. 👍🏼🇱🇰💐🙏🏼
"Partnering with Lipton and Brown and Company holds promise. Establishing a clear relationship and fostering future development to cultivate tea plantations in Sri Lanka is essential. Evaluating business opportunities with countries and fostering counterpart relationships, whether taxable or free zone, can benefit both parties and facilitate future expansion. Clear leadership and streamlined bureaucracies are key to success."
Well done, Browns! This remarkable accomplishment truly reflects the essence of Sri Lankan identity!
Congratulations to the browns team on this investment ,way to go. wish your team the very best on your new acquisition.
Kanya has a black tea standard approved by the European Union, and Sri Lanka has no tea standard. please clarify why.
Glad to see a home-grown entity thriving in tea industry

8moI’ve been closely working with numerous tea exporters who are encountering significant challenges in competing with Kenyan tea. Some unscrupulous individuals are blending Kenyan tea with Sri Lankan tea and exporting it under Sri Lankan labels. Sadly, if this continues, it’s likely that in the next two to three years, many tea buyers will favor Kenyan tea over Sri Lankan. It’s disheartening to see the reputation of Sri Lankan exports being compromised without much consideration.
