The world has the resources to do much better and reduce the suffering in the world. We believe that a key reason why we fail to achieve the progress we are capable of is that we do not make enough use of this existing research and data: the important knowledge is often stored in inaccessible databases, locked away behind paywalls and buried under jargon in academic papers. The goal of our work is to make the knowledge on the big problems accessible and understandable. 🚨 Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud: Is it Really the Answer for Impact Organizations? The recent survey results are in, and the numbers are striking. While Salesforce has pushed Nonprofit Cloud (NPC) as the ultimate solution for nonprofits, the adoption rates tell a very different story: 📊 44% of nonprofits haven't even evaluated NPC and are unsure if or when they will! 📊 26% have evaluated but remain undecided about moving forward. 📊 Only 9% have fully committed or already made the move. This paints a stark picture of how disconnected the tech industry's solutions can be from the real needs of impact organizations. Here are my key takeaways: 1️⃣ Data Ownership is Slipping Away: When platforms like Salesforce centralize control, nonprofits lose their ability to own and guide their own tech evolution. Remember when NPSP was open source? We need to bring back community-driven innovation. 2️⃣ The 'One-Stop-Shop' Myth: NPC promises to be a cure-all for every organizational need—CRM, marketing, grantmaking—but this model is outdated. Data-first ecosystems that allow flexibility, rather than locking everything into one platform, are the future. 3️⃣ Impact Needs Over Profit: Tech companies like Salesforce, Microsoft, and Blackbaud are more focused on maximizing sales than truly supporting nonprofits. The Salesforce Foundation used to invest in nonprofits, building a real community. Now, it’s all about market share. 4️⃣ Choice > Consolidation: Nonprofits need options, not one-size-fits-all solutions. Platforms that enable community governance and capacity-building will lead the next wave of impact tech—not centralized solutions dictated by profit motives.
