JOB OPPORTUNITY: Outside In would like to hear from freelance fundraisers with significant and substantial experience in writing multi-year funding applications to Trusts and Foundations for core costs and project costs. This is a freelance contract with flexible hours, paid based on the applicants' day rate, and with work available from January to October 2025. Outside In provides a platform for artists who encounter significant barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance, or isolation. It is an important and rare example of an organisation with national reach championing the work of artists excluded from the art world. It was formed in 2006 at Pallant House Gallery and won the Charity Award for Arts and Heritage in 2013 and the Queens Award for Voluntary Services in 2022. Outside In became an independent charity in 2017 and gained National Portfolio Organisation status with the Arts Council England in 2018. Apply by Friday 31 January! https://lnkd.in/eneTaWfm

I really limited myself when I first went Freelance. I said no to things that didn't quite fit the box I thought I belonged in. When I realised I could create something totally new that worked for me and my skillset it was a massive breakthrough moment 💡 But I had to get out of my own head, overcome a shed load of negative limiting beliefs and BELiEVE in what I was selling before I had the proof. The Collective, the membership for events fundraisers, I created in 2020 hadn't been done before but I gave myself permission to create it. The thing is if you want more flexibility, choice and control from your work, you don't need to limit yourself from the off. This clip is from Module 2 of From Fundraiser to Freelancer; the 8 week Freelance Course that isn't just for Fundraisers! If you're ready to build a profitable, aligned and life changing freelance business after working in charity... Join the wait list and you'll receive free coaching session invites, tips and advice for getting started and early bird entry to enrolment when the course opens again. https://lnkd.in/dGYUwR67

Mae gweithwyr llawrydd yn cynnig llawer i elusennau a sefydliadau nid-er-elw. Freelancers offer some amazing opportunities for charities and non-profits (and I don't just mean me) but getting that relationship right is crucial for success. I've been freelance for 4+ years now and I've learnt a lot. When I was working for a charity, I sometimes used freelancers. We had successes but I didn't always get things right. Looking back, I don't think I realised the full potential for using freelancers. How many times do you find you lack the time or expertise to do something? Getting a freelance videographer might be obvious, but what about a facilitator, trainer, copywriting, proof-reader or project manager? I was glad to read this blogpost by Claire Colvine about how charities can work well with freelancers to get the best results. A clear brief and good communication go a long way. Do you agree with Claire's tips? What's worked for you as a freelancer or as a charity? Dwi'n falch iawn i weld y blogiad yma am sut i weithio gyda gweithwyr llawrydd. Ro'n i'n meddwl am wneud rhywbeth tebyg! Gall briff clir a chyfathrebu da fynd yn bell. Ydych chi'n cytuno? Beth sy'n gweithio i chi? #freelance #communications CharityComms ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eKhXe-dA

3 reasons your new freelance work is unfulfilling... 1️⃣ you're undercharging. Which means you either have to work longer hours, take more work or clients on or spend your non working time worried about money and where your next gig is coming from. Not the vibe. 2️⃣ you're taking on projects and clients that aren't aligned with where you're at currently nor your vision for the future. This could originate from fear of there not being enough work to go round, difficulty saying no or limiting beliefs about yourself and your new work offer. 3️⃣ you're playing out old patterns from when you were employed, even though you're the boss now and you can create new rules and boundaries. This translates as overworking, over promising, getting stuck in perfectionism and overthinking. How do I know this? How do you think I know? 😄 And it almost led me to jack in my freelance dreams and give up everything I'd worked so hard to build. And if I'd done that I wouldn't have created my From Fundraiser to Freelancer group programme which has supported dozens of people moving out of charity to set their businesses up, nor my LinkedIn Audio Series, or my 1:1 mentoring programme or my strategy & planning workshops or The Collective membership or The Money Movement course. If you want help creating the freelance work of your dreams without stress or sacrifice, DM me the words I'M IN. #fromfundraisertofreelancer #freelancing #freelancer #consultant #charityfreelancer #charityconsultant #notforprofit #businessowner

Thanks so much for this post Ali Lyons - 💥fundraising is only successful if you are fundable in the first place.💥 ✅This starts with clarity about your organisation’s mission and strategy. ✅Figuring out what that is - AND being able to clearly articulate it is vital. These are two different things. 💥 If you haven’t invested (and it is an investment) in your own strategy development as an organisation here’s what happens: you will forever struggle, and will be swept along with whatever is external to you. 💪🏻In other words- pick a hill and stand on it. #strategy #socialimpact #internationaldevelopment #organisationaldevelopment #fundraising #purpose
I'm not a freelance fundraiser. I made that decision very consciously. But I'm regularly approached to help charity's find one, recommend that they appoint one, & chat to freelance fundraisers. And I've noticed that we've got a bit of a challenge on our hands around expectations. The common scenario: 🔎 Trustees notice/are told by CEO that bringing in funding is trickier than it has been previously, & what they've always done isn't working. 📣 They put a call out for a freelancer to test the water. Then a few things might happen: 🥳 They find a brilliant freelancer that is a really good fit for the charity, provide them with everything they need to fundraise well & the investment is a great success. Yey! 😟 They see the cost and decide it is too expensive and they'll just muddle on. (Which is a false economy). 🥴 They are expecting a payment by results model. Which is against CIOF best practice. But nevertheless they assume that the freelancer is trying to pull a fast one and decide not to pursue this. 😩 They have their reservations based on cost, and up front payment but give it a go. But the expectations are so mismatched that the relationship doesn't go well and they decide never to recruit a fundraiser again. 😭 (adding Sophie Randles-Dunkley excellent point) "The freelancer identifies the problems, presents a comprehensive set of solutions with a clear roadmap of how to get there. Upskills the in-house team and readies them for greatness... Only for the client to ignore all of that and do it their own way anyway." So here are a few realities if you're considering appointing a freelancer fundraiser: 1️⃣ (I cannot say this loudly enough) 🎇 FUNDRAISING IS ONLY SUCCESSFUL IF YOU'RE FUNDABLE IN THE FIRST PLACE. 🎇 Which means: -> Having real clarity on your purpose -> Having a focused strategy and delivery plan to achieve your purpose -> Being able to consistently demonstrate the impact you are having -> Having a realistic income model based on the costs of your delivery plan and knowledge of who will fund your impact, and the timescales to do this 2️⃣ Reframe your thinking around cost and value. With a freelancer you aren't just getting their dedicated capacity, you're getting all of their skill honed over a number of years, their very up to date knowledge from right across the sector, and their connections. Freelance fundraisers are networkers and sharers, and support each other. It is incredible value for money that you'd struggle to get if you were employing someone. Or doing it yourself. 3️⃣ Appointing a freelance fundraiser is a relationship requires trust based in mutual respect and understanding of each other. If you're unsure, think they are in it for the cash, or that they are not promising enough, PLEASE talk this through with them. It simply won't work if you go in with bad faith. Freelance fundraisers are phenomenal. But they can only work their magic when given the right circumstances.

The next Charity Freelancer Chat is on Monday 25 March, 11.30am (UK-time). Details of how to sign-up are in the comments. If you've not heard of Charity Freelancer Chat, today is either your lucky day, or will be momentarily tedious - either way, BUCKLE IN 👇 We meet on Zoom - by 'we', I mean freelancers who work in the charity sector. We go into breakout rooms, and we chat for about 20 mins. Then we come out, mix up the breakout rooms, and do it all again. I'm sure every industry would say the same thing, but the charity sector is a unique sector to be a freelancer in. And people tell me they come to Charity Freelancer Chat to meet other people who 'get it'. Whether it's to make new connections, find new collaborators, get help on a problem, or just pass the time chatting to another human over a cuppa. If that sounds like something you'd be up for, come along! Details in the comments (or just send me a DM.) Let me know if you've already got it in your diary - and/or tag someone else who you think might enjoy it! 🥳

What would you say is the most important thing to focus on first when building your new freelance career? A commonly held belief is the skills and "how to" come first. Because without the business set up correctly nothing else can proceed. And there's contracts, legislation, invoicing, accounting and insurance to sort out. That has to take priority right? Wrong. ❌ Those steps are of course necessary but they're not what's most important. What's really important in your new freelance career is YOU. That's why the From Fundraiser to Freelancer™ course BEGINS with the beliefs and stories you're telling yourself that you can't be, do or have whatever it is you desire. The confidence and mindset to start and then keep moving forward is a priority. Because without that strong belief system, you're building your business on rocky ground. And that's when things tend to go wrong. Thoughts? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'm Jane and I help charity professionals build profitable and life changing freelance businesses. 🙋♀️ I do this through my From Fundraiser to Freelancer™ Course & 1:1 Accelerator. 🚀 You can DM anytime and ask me your questions about going Freelance after working in the Charity Sector. 💌

Celebrating my course member for getting their first Freelance client! 🥳 It's a big deal! It's when you go from it being a one day in the future dream to an omg this is actually happening! reality. And it can happen fast when you get out of your own way and start taking the steps towards your Freelancing dreams. My client wasn't sure if she should be updating her LinkedIn profile before she was ready to start working. Through busting some limiting beliefs together she felt ready to make that small but important update, and the rest is history! Getting clients once is important. Getting them on an ongoing basis is critical if you want a profitable business. It makes up a 1/4 of the From Fundraiser to Freelancer Framework I teach in my course. When you have all four pieces of the puzzle in place, everything just starts working more easily and effortlessly. #fromfundraisertofreelancer #freelancingcourse #freelancer #charityfreelancing #charityfreelancer 😊 Hi, I'm Jane, and I help conscientious charity professionals build profitable and life changing freelance businesses. How much should I be #charging? It's probably one of the most common questions I get asked by those new to freelancing (and honestly, it's fairly common when you're established too). #Pricing is hard! I'm in the process of curating a guide on the topic for Freelancing.Support, but I always suggest to people that great place to start is industry benchmarks. Knowing the going rates for your sector can really help setting your baselines. So I've gathered a list of the most useful ones I've found that are UK-focused and from authoritative sources. These mostly cover the creative and marketing industries currently (i.e. developers, writers, illustrators, journalists, PR, etc), so I'm keen to find more sources - what other sector day rate benchmarks do you know of?
