LiDAR-Based Parking Slot Detection Porsche Engineering has developed a LiDAR based Parking Slot Detection (PSD) system to enhance Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). LiDAR, short for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing technology that utilizes pulsed laser light to measure distances. Unlike traditional methods that can struggle under varying light conditions, LiDAR technology directly detects whether parking spaces are available, making it more efficient and reliable. The parking slot detection system scans the ground for parking space lines, identifies their orientation, and enhances their visibility. It then generates hypotheses about where parking spots might be located and uses specific data to check if they are occupied. This technology is noted for its precision in detecting parking slots, particularly in semi-indoor and well-marked parking areas.
