📸🩺 Distended Intestines: What to Look For on Abdominal X-rays 🩺📸 In today's Case Rounds, Dr. Weissman from Radimal examines an abdominal radiograph of a dog, focusing on the intestines. 🐾 Key points: 1. Trace the large intestine on the lateral projection, starting at the pelvic inlet. 2. Identify small intestinal segments and measure their distension. 3. Use the 1.6 times the height of L5 rule to determine if the small intestine is distended. In this case, we see two populations of bowel: normal-sized and distended. This could indicate a mechanical obstruction, which may require further investigation like abdominal ultrasound or exploratory surgery. Got questions? -In cats, uterine stump pyometra is reported to occur in neutered queens either because of ovarian remnants or following administration of progestagens. Ovarian remnant syndrome is usually diagnosed when a previously spayed queen shows recurrent behavioural signs of oestrous. -In our case the was spayed 10 years ago following this procedure the cat started to show signs of heat cycle, at age of 12 years the cat had vaginal discharge and abdominal discomfort and decreased appetite. -Exploratory surgery done we found right ovarian remenant tissue with cystic structures and huge stump attached to intestinal lobe , blunt dissection done with complete removal of both ovarian remenant and stump. #veterinarymedicine #veterinarysurgery

This technique relies on the cutaneous branch of the superficial temporal artery, showcasing remarkable anatomical precision, with experimental studies confirming its efficacy.⠀ ⠀ 7 days after surgery, 95% of the flap was viable. The GDV surgical procedure involves four key steps: decompression, de-rotation, assessment of damage, and gastropexy. Decompressing the stomach to relieve gas pressure using a needle, manually correcting the twisted stomach (de-rotation) with care to prevent further damage, assessing organs for necrotic tissue post-de-rotation, and performing a gastropexy to secure the stomach to the abdominal wall and prevent recurrence. 3 year old cockatoo was blind for the last 1 year due to cataracts. Her right eye had a retinal detachment hence vision could not be restored but her left eye had a good chance.  This is how Maya looks now after cataract surgery in her left eye.
