Nevertheless, industry alliances continue to be born at a rapid rate—usually a sign that technology companies are huddling together for warmth to weather an ongoing storm more than evidence of fierce innovation. But not always. IP and virtualization are revolutionizing #LiveProduction workflows, making them more flexible, cost-effective, and more sustainable. The changes in production are profound and create many challenges for the control of #BroadcastOperations. ▶️ To capture and keep viewers' attention, #broadcasters must create content for specific interests. These productions range from small political interviews to large-scale sports and esports events. Often, productions occur simultaneously and across multiple locations. ▶️ #CloudTechnology, already impacting playout and distribution, is now entering live production, complementing or replacing on-premises resources. It lets broadcasters scale processing capacity for peak loads during major events. Currently, used for tier 2/3 productions, it's expected to extend to tier 1 in the future. These are only two changes out of many that have already created a very different live production environment – one that today’s #BroadcastControl systems (BCS) weren’t developed for. Since the beginning of this year BBC 6Music and, later, Radio 2 have been broadcasting from new studios in Broadcasting House, London as part of the BBC Pop Hub. This was the subject of two Radio TechCon sessions today: one looking at how VR was used as part of the design process; the other covering how that was made reality.
