#mnd Connect changes... #MNDConnect is changing to allow the helpline to provide better support to more people affected by MND. From Monday 4 March, the phone lines will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. Calls will be answered by an automated system which will help quickly direct calls to a person who has the specialist knowledge they need. The service was launched by a group of volunteers in 1997 and the first staff were recruited in 2002. Since then, there has been little change to the way the service operates. The changes, being introduced following a thorough review, will ensure we can answer more calls and provide the very best service, including to people who are newly diagnosed with MND. Emails will continue to be answered daily. The changes are being introduced on a six-month trial basis with results being monitored to ensure they are delivering the improvements we expect.

In the PACE system, a 'request for service' or RFS is a crucial first step for NDIS participants before they can start working with a support coordinator or a recovery coach. Providers will not be able to see a participant's plan information or upload reports until they accept an RFS 🖱️✅ To work with plan managers and other service providers, the NDIS participant can call the NDIA to have their providers recorded on their plan. The participant identifies the SC or recovery coach they want to work with, and the NDIA planner places a request for service in the new my NDIS provider portal.] #supportcoordination #ndis #pace

The picture below shows the injuries sustained while transporting a care recipient. Despite numerous requests for assistance, support has not been provided. As a result, the parents are now considering community living support (CLS), where the individual would move into a home with direct support professionals offering 1:1 care. However, there is no guarantee that the individual can be safely care for in CLS given the intensity of behavior and lack of the specialized training required by staff. This raises a concern: how can this individual be safely supported by 1 direct support staff (DSP) especially during car rides? How safe is it to require a DSP who has not received the requisite training to provide this support? Who keeps the DSP safe? The current policy puts both the care recipient and caregivers at risk. We need better policies that considers the level of support each individual needs. Parents are resistant to CLS not because they are delusional, it is because they understand that it is not a safe option. The options being provided to individuals should not be “one-size” fits all. #BehaviorSupport #BehaviorServices #AutismParents #WeNeedHelp

STUPIDITY Alert: It's gonna be interesting working out what happens when the support co-ordinators get cut out by NDIS in 12-18 months (as we've been pre-warned). - Let me get this right… You're gonna go to NDIS Navigators who represent NDIS to find out how to get the best from NDIS while they follow instructions to cut your funding. - How the heck will anyone navigate NDIS when NDIS doesn't have a good track record of even responding to participant emails? - Where on earth will 99% of NDIS businesses get their referrals from? Hope you've got a plan from that. Sure. What can go right?
